Meanwhile, as The New York Times reported in 2018, “Trump participated in dubious tax schemes during the 1990s, including instances of outright fraud.” In 2019, the ex-president’s former attorney Michael Cohen told Congress that Trump regularly inflated his assets “when it served his purpose”—like to obtain loans—and deflated them when it would similarly be advantageous—like to minimize his tax bill. Donald Trump is a saint and would never dream of such a thing!” If you’re at all in touch with reality, the answer is a resounding “Hell yes” and maybe a “I literally can’t think of a person more likely to do this” for good measure. If you’re a person currently employed by the ex-president or for some reason in thrall of him, your answer to that last question is probably “Of course not!

Ivana Trump's burial site might be a secret tax windfall for Donald ... (Salon)

Experts weigh whether the president might have buried his ex-wife on his golf course to avoid a higher tax burden.

Soled speculated that there was a "reasonableness standard" that the former president would probably not clear in a state audit. Consequently, he was taxed that year at $6 an acre rather than $462. The property maintains a herd of goats as well as resources for farming and woodcutting, according to The Wall Street Journal. Jay Soled, Director of Rutgers Masters in Taxation Program, was more skeptical of the idea that Ivana Trump's burial was a tax play, calling the notion "a bit overkill." In 2007, Trump told the New York Post that he wanted to be laid to rest in the "beautiful land" of Bedminster. In 2012, NPR reported that Trump had been approved by the city's town council to build his own 500-grave mausoleum. According to ProPublica, the Trump family trust previously worked to establish a non-profit funeral business in Hackettstown, New Jersey, located just twenty miles from Ivana Trump's gravesite. The New York Post reported that her funeral was held "not too far from the main clubhouse."

Ivana Trump is buried on Donald's golf course – will it give him a tax ... (Evening Standard)

Ivana's 'pauper grave' might benefit ex-husband's long-held tax planning purposes.

Trump reportedly owns several goats and farms hay at the resort, which reduced his tax bill by around $88,000 a year. The New York Times also reported that Trump used a range of strategies to avoid paying taxes on wealth inherited from his father, and the Trump Organisation has also been accused of massively misrepresenting the value of some of its assets in a bid to secure loans and tax breaks. Donald Trump has previously expressed his wishes to be buried at his New Jersey golf club, telling the New York Post in 2007 that he wanted to be laid to rest in the “beautiful land” of Bedminster. In a tweet, she wrote: “As a tax researcher, I was skeptical of rumors Trump buried his ex-wife in that sad little plot of dirt on his Bedminster, NJ golf course just for tax breaks. Defining the golf course as a cemetery would grant the business a range of tax breaks. In documents published by ProPublica, the Trump Family Trust has been shown to have previously sought to designate a property in Hackettstown – which is about 20 miles from the golf course where Ivana is buried – as a nonprofit cemetery company.

Ivana Trump Is Not Buried At A Golf Course For Tax-Avoidance ... (Above the Law)

There is more to being a cemetery company than just operating land dedicated to the deceased.

So the entirety of the golf course is not exempt from property taxes. However, a publication is not the same as the New Jersey tax code. This could lead to what she calls a “trifecta of tax avoidance.” Sponsored A golf course seems like an unusual place to be buried even if the scenery is nice and the land is usually well cared for. A few weeks ago, former president Donald Trump’s ex-wife Ivana Trump died in her home.

Donald Trump and Ivana's Burial 'Tax Break'—What We Do Know ... (Newsweek)

Donald Trump's critics accused him of burying his ex-wife at his golf course to enjoy the tax breaks, but the story is not that simple.

"The application limited the parcel's usage as a private, 10-plot cemetery for Donald Trump and members of his family. The Board has not received any subsequent applications for a cemetery company in Bedminster." Evidently, based on photos of the site, very little has been done so far to develop the cemetery plot since 2016. In any case, the arguments about tax breaks are theoretical at this point. It states that a trust, created by the cemetery company, would receive "additional deposits (from the company)... as necessary, through gifts made by Mr. Trump and his family and friends. It continues: "Cemetery property is exempt from sale for collection of judgments.
