Sir Jim Ratcliffes spokesperson told The Times: If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer.

They think they can get a good deal at the moment and that the value of Premier League clubs is going to boom in the next few years because they believe there will be a lot more interest in streaming and they can make money from the fans these Premier League clubs have all around the world. They sold that stake to shareholders - this time it's about bringing in an investor." The official line from within Manchester United has always been that they are not for sale. They took on debt to acquire the Red Devils and have been in uncertain financial circumstances ever since. There is growing belief the much-maligned American owners are prepared to release their hold on United in the face of mounting pressure from fans. That deal was struck with the Blues under intense pressure to find a quick agreement after Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government for his links to Vladimir Putin. Further fan protests against the Glazers are planned for Monday night’s game with Liverpool, and there is already a movement against Apollo, who are seen to be Glazer allies rather than their replacements. As a minority investor the best that could be hoped is that they applied pressure to the club’s executive management. The Ratcliffe camp say their man is a buyer but only if the club is for sale, which it isn’t. Much as when Musk tweeted, there was great excitement when the wealthiest man in Britain seemed to suggest he would be interested in a stake in United. Yet, and here is the key, Joel and Avram Glazer wish to keep the majority stake and control the day to day running of the club. The Premier League would therefore have to look at his involvement very closely. The richest man on the planet was only teasing when he pretended to be buying the club in a tersely enticing tweet, and that was bad enough. A suggested five-year contract would make United hostages to fortune given his age and while it could be argued he would justify his wage and fee as a premium talent, so was Raphael Varane when he left Real, and United appear to have worked their post-Ferguson magic on him. So why would Sir Jim Ratcliffe want to get involved with the club in its present state? He’s a much better player, but unless he’s got the worst negotiator in football, surely he earns more than Rabiot? The new boss will be the same as the old boss. ‘You are not energised in the same way you were before.

His inability to enter proceedings early with the Chelsea takeover played against his 'British' bid which bypassed the Raine Group process and therefore wasn't really considered by the higher-ups in West London who used the New York Investment bank to conduct proceedings.
