Kris Richards has joined the GW softball staff as an assistant coach, Head Coach Chrissy Schoonmaker announced on Monday.

He was a member of the Orioles organization for three seasons playing for three different minor-league clubs in 2012 and 2013 as an infielder before requiring Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow shortly after converting to pitching in spring training of 2014. Before heading to New Zealand, Richards spent two seasons as hitting coach of the Czech Republic's U-23 National Team while also managing Kotlářka Praha baseball club in Prague. That year, Richards served as hitting coach with the U-15 national team for the WBSC World Cup Oceania qualifiers. "Kris has a passion for player development, a love of coaching and a deep knowledge of the game which will make an immediate impact. "I want to thank Coach Schoonmaker for giving me the opportunity to be a part of her experienced coaching staff. "It's an honor to take on this role and represent such a respected institution," Richards said.
