We are committed to building one team with one mission – the third of three strategic priorities I highlighted in our recent earnings call – and the efforts in support of the launch of House of the Dragon are a great indication of how strong we are and what we can do when we work together. We can really move the needle and I can’t wait to see what we will do on future campaigns when we harness the full reach and unique opportunities we bring to the table. And we’ve done all of this in just a few short months, clearly showing what we can accomplish when our networks, streaming platforms, digital and social channels, all work collectively in support of one shared priority. It has also been exciting to see teams across the company work collaboratively with the HBO team in what has been an unprecedented cross-promotional campaign. Enjoy the weekend and hope you tune in on Sunday! Discovery is our unparalleled ability to connect with fans around the world through our exceptional and diverse storytelling, our trusted, quality brands, our world-class creative leadership, the broad reach of our global platforms, and, most importantly, the incredible contributions of our people. It is something we should all be really proud of, and we cannot wait to share it with audiences worldwide. House of the Dragon ads, per iSpot, aired across the WB Discovery universe including TBS (20.9%), Discovery (9.1%), TNT (7.7%), CNN (7.4%) and Food Network (6.6%). In regards to HBO viewing records and what House of the Dragon is up against, Euphoria Season 2 episodes averaged 19.5M viewers each across all platforms, making it the best performance of a season for any HBO series other than Thrones since 2004. Viewership for the Season 2 premiere for the Zendaya-led show climbed to 19 million total viewers in the U.S. Martin & Respecting The Legacy – Hero Nation Podcast](https://deadline.com/2022/08/house-of-the-dragon-creators-interview-podcast-1235089144/) for the $200M production, but the CEO points out that the endeavor exemplified a revived studio that is “committed to building one team with one mission.” We’ve heard from sources that the House of the Dragon marketing campaign indeed is bigger than anything that HBO ever pushed, including the second season of Euphoria and the final season of Game of Thrones, which averaged 46M per episode domestically.

As the first episode of House of the Dragons finished, I asked myself whether it was as captivating as Game of Thrones' first. Even after six episodes of the show, House of the Dragon's scope is still mysterious. But the shining star of House of the Dragon's opening episodes is surely Milly Alcock as Rhaenyra. In contrast, House of the Dragon is all about the internecine conflict generated by different Targaryens all laying claim to the same Iron Throne. Much of Game of Thrones centered on the combative houses of Westeros vying to become the dominant clan. Only time, and the subsequent seasons it brings, will tell if House of the Dragon can scale that wall.
The first reviews for the 'Game of Thrones' follow-up are in, and while the acting is applauded, many can't help but yearn for the golden age of Thrones.

Mike Hale of NYT quipped that viewers will be “more pleased, surely, than it was with the GOT conclusion of 2019.” But when Thrones premiered in 2011, it became a hit because it sucked us into a completely realized world of fully-defined characters, intriguing conflict, and shocking turns. “House of the Dragon has to be its own thing,” star If they were comparing Dragon to where we left off with Thrones in May 2019, with a disappointing last season that pushed characters beyond any realistic boundaries and wrapped up the story in a tidy, but wholly anticlimactic way, Dragon may have stood a chance.

The successor to his grandfather, the Old King Jaehaerys, Viserys I was the first ruler of his name to sit on the Iron Throne but the fifth king of the Targaryen dynasty to oversee the Seven Kingdoms, ruling from 103 AC to 129 AC. While the previews have set up a dynamic that looks as if there will be tension between the family members as they vie to rule Westeros, Daemon actually ends up supporting Rhaenyra’s claim to the Iron Throne in the book. It will be particularly exciting to see where houses like the Velaryons go in the first season given their connection to the throne and Corlys’ bitterness towards Viserys. The height of the Targaryen reign. But the idea is that, in the end, the events are the same." In the trailer, we see Viserys' cousin, Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, tell Rhaenyra that a woman will not inherit the Iron Throne because that is the order of things. With a new series comes a plethora of new houses thrown into the mix of Westeros. Elaborating on his role, the author stated that he was very much involved in the production process, following the events of the book which the series is based on, Fire and Blood. In the very first episode of Game of Thrones, Daenerys learns that dragons have been gone from the world for over 100 years, seemingly aligning with the time and events which take place in House of the Dragon (2022).
