In the coming quarters, we expect revenue from the automotive segment to catch up to the medical segment level gradually. “In the remaining quarters of FY22, we expect one of our new medical products to start contributing to our revenue, after a very long wait,” Shiue said. “We are in a situation now where we are working hard to meet the demand of our clients, both for the medical and automotive segment. Its revenue for the quarter rose 21.71% to RM39.86mil against RM32.75mil posted in the previous corresponding period, driven by higher demand from the automotive, medical and industrial segments. The medical devices manufacturer attributed the higher earnings to improved efficiencies, which resulted in better sales of higher margin products, namely in its medical segment.

One down, four more cases to go for Najib (The Star Online)

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, now in jail over the RM42mil SRC International case, has four more pending court cases.

Another pending case is the 1MDB audit report tampering case where Najib is charged with power abuse. Both were charged under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of no less than five times the amount of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction. They were charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same Code, which provides for a maximum of 20 years’ jail and whipping, as well as a fine if convicted.

SMG sustains turnaround, and reports profit in 2Q (The Star Online)

The group posted a pre-tax profit of RM5.12mil for 1H22, a significant improvement from a pre-tax loss of RM51.78mil in 1H21. Its event and exhibition segment recorded a loss of RM0.20mil in 2Q22, a marginal improvement compared with a loss of RM0.32mil in 2Q21. For the six-month period, SMG recorded an 18% increase in revenue to RM105.32mil for the first half of 2022. SMG said strong demand translated into growth in its financial performance with not only revenue rising, but also the company posting a pre-tax profit of RM2.14mil in 2Q22 compared with a pre-tax loss of RM37.76mil in 2Q21 that was primarily due to impairments of property, plant and equipment.SMG said that despite the improvement in its financial performance, it expects market conditions to remain volatile in view of unpredictable global uncertainties and that the group would remain financially prudent and continue to improve on its operational efficiencies. For its radio broadcasting segment, revenue was higher for the quarter at RM8.58mil compared with RM6.89mil in 2Q21, mainly driven by higher revenue in the Malay segment. During the course of the programme, students will pitch, shoot and edit content using their smartphones before presenting their work to a panel of judges from CNN. Meanwhile, students can also opt to do their CNN module alongside other media and communications modules such as ‘Issues and Challenges in Contemporary Media’ and ‘Mass Media and Working in the Culture Industry’. Semporna crocodile attack: Angler's body found by villagers (The Star Online)

KOTA KINABALU: The remains of an angler who was attacked by a crocodile have been found after a three-day search in Sabah's east coast Semporna district.

Azman and his cousin were fishing at the riverbank when he was snatched by the reptile while the latter managed to flee. “However, they received word from the Semporna police that villagers had actually found the body at 5pm on Monday, not far from where the victim was reported to have gone missing,” Misran said when contacted on Tuesday. He said a cousin of the 35-year-old victim had earlier reported to the authorities that the latter was mauled by a crocodile while they were fishing at Sungai Pegagau at 3pm on Sunday (Aug 21).
