Leaked Videos of Gay Sex Lead To Calls For Monkeypox Contact ... (VICE)

Although its $1.4 billion tourism industry covets the rainbow dollar, LGBTQ freedom is limited to tourists.

Police have seized the passports of 18 men and informed their employers that they were identified in the videos. Although the three men have been released from police custody, Alamgiri continues to be detained. “The response needs to be well-resourced and nuanced and sensitive. Politician Ahmed Shiyam has spearheaded a call for monkeypox contact tracing to be carried out on Alamgiri and his clients after one suspected case was reported in the country in July. The penalties for homosexuality in the country can range to up to eight years’ imprisonment and 100 lashes. 22 formal charges were filed by the prosecutor general’s office against Alamgiri and three men. However, the concern is still there, since monkeypox is spreading everywhere in the world,” Ahmed Shiyam told VICE World News. However, just because something is logical from a public health perspective does not mean that it is right from a human rights perspective,” said Knight. Public health experts have stressed using appropriate messaging to prevent homophobic stigmatisation against the LGBTQ community. He clasps his hands in a pleading stance and stares straight into the lens. Maldives: Greater efforts needed to confront obstacles for media, says IFJ (International Federation of Journalists)

Despite progress and promises made by the current Maldivian government to address press freedom, there are still obstacles for journalists in the country. During an evaluation mission in the Maldives, the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) ...

The IFJ said:“The Maldives remains a highly politicised media space. With the new MMC election dates announced this week, the IFJ and its affiliate, the Maldives Journalists Association (MJA), maintain that media outlets not in the regular service of journalism production should be removed from voting contention in the upcoming elections to ensure legitimate media worker interests are represented. The IFJ noted concerns of journalists during trainings with its affiliate, the MJA. “The IFJ was gravely concerned to learn of the widespread industry practice of ‘docking’ journalists’ salaries by media companies when journalists were deemed to be underperforming or not filing a set number of stories per day. “Coupled with this is a widespread lack of employment contracts and obstacles to accreditation – especially for freelance journalists. Recent changes to the highly problematic Evidence Act remained an overarching concern in discussions, but the IFJ notes other issues were brought to light that continue to impede the development of a full and vibrant independent media in the country.

Al-Auzam killed the leader of the Portuguese colonials. The Maldives is an archipelagic and Muslim-majority country located in the Indian Ocean. Qaumee Dhuvas is observed to commemorate his victory in driving out the Portuguese from the Maldives. In 1558, the Portuguese, led by ‘Andiri Andirin,’ attacked the Maldives, killed the Sultan Ali VI of the Maldives, and instigated colonial rule. The celebrations of Qaumee Dhuvas typically include route marches and parades on the streets of Malé, as well as on the islands. Qaumee Dhuvas means ‘National Day’ in the Maldivian language and is observed annually on the first of the third month of the Islamic calendar, identified as Rabi’ al-Awwal, and this year it’ll be observed on September 26.
