Southampton vs Man Utd player ratings: Fernandes shows class ... (iNews)

Manchester United enjoy back-to-back wins for first time under Erik ten Hag thanks to Bruno Fernandes' second-half strike at St Mary's.

Continued his aggressive approach and looks set for a run in the team after being named man of the match 8 He’s very good at holding the ball up and getting on the end of crosses. Adam Armstrong: A number of eye-catching dribbles to move away from pressure and carry ball forward. He’s a top player but they still need more. Casemiro is not going to change that fact. You get to 37 years of age, you’re not going to go sprinting away from people. Che Adams: Given a start after his match-winning double from the bench against Leicester. Won a free-kick after a cheeky nutmeg on McTominay and showed some nice turns away from pressure 7 James Ward-Prowse: Like watching a game of chess as he battled the similarly silky Eriksen. The ploy worked to perfection in the 55th minute. Tyrell Malacia: Tenacious presence at left-back despite majority of Southampton coming down his side. Despite the breakthrough, Southampton did not give in.

Southampton 0 Manchester United 1 (Manchester United)

Manchester United earned the first away victory of the season by defeating Southampton 1-0 in the Premier League's early Saturday game.

Back to Back wins… Prior to the match, the Saints had rescued four points from losing positions in their previous two outings and were looking to repeat a turnaround. Armstrong 63), A. United stormed out of the blocks after the interval, heaping early pressure on the home side and were rewarded 10 minutes following the restart. However, the best opportunity fell to Armel Bella-Kotchap. A Diogo Dalot cross caused mayhem in the penalty area as the Southampton keeper Gavin Bazunu and his defence somehow frantically denied Bruno Fernandes the chance to head home, before thwarting Anthony Elanga, Fernandes again and then Christian Eriksen – all from around the six-yard box.

7 former Man Utd players we can't believe are still playing in 2022 (PlanetFootball)

Definitely one of the most bizarre signings of the Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford, Bebe was plucked from the Portuguese third division on the recommendation ...

“I’m aware that in the great history of Manchester United I’m a whisper in the wind.” In 2012, he told the Daily Record: “Even now I am always thinking about that moment. That gave them a shot at Champions League qualifying, but they were easily dispatched by Ferencvaros. Still, United got £8million for him from CSKA just a year after he signed, so not all was lost. Talking to Sportbible about the Villa goal in 2020, Macheda said: “It was a crazy day because it was so unexpected. I slipped a bit but when I raised my head I knew I hit the ball quite well. The shot was perfect.” If you try to build the perfect debut, I don’t think you would be able to build it like mine was. “I’m super proud of it, but it was not me who won that title,” Lindegaard told the Guardian in 2021. Tosic then spent seven years in the Russian Premier League before short a short spell back in Serbia and a stint in China. “It was a great pass and I thought it was the only thing I could do. Plenty of players – the great and not-so-great – have turned out for Manchester United down the years – but you’ll be surprised at some of those that are still active in 2022.

Fernandes seals tight win for resurgent Manchester United at ... (The Guardian)

Bruno Fernandes's sweetly struck finish early in the second half gave Manchester United a 1-0 win against Southampton in a keenly contested match.

The referee was looking directly at the incident but his view was possibly concealed by McTominay, who appeared to juggle the ball with both his left and right hands before swatting it away in the box. It is a new way of playing and [there are] a lot of new facts. We started from the first day of pre-season to get that in and now the window is not closed so every time a new player is in we have to inform them about the rules. First Fernandes miscued a header from a Diogo Dalot cross under pressure from Walker-Peters and from there another barmy few seconds in the United chronicles ensued. Tyrell Malacia was bright, Christian Eriksen was typically classy at the base of midfield and, for all of the flak that came his way following the dismal defeats by Brentford and Brighton, Lisandro Martínez was gallant in defence. More new faces are expected too, with Ten Hag keen on signing a backup goalkeeper and a reunion with the Ajax forward Antony, who has made clear his desire to depart the Eredivisie club.

Things we learned from Southampton v Man Utd (Manchester United)

The Reds built on Monday' fantastic win against Liverpool to rack up our first away win of the Premier League season - and a first competitive victory away from ...

Dalot’s pinpoint assist proved to be match-winning for United at a key point of the game. Perhaps most impressively of all, he audibly dictated when his teammates needed to tighten up through the centre. United’s new signing only entered the pitch with 10 minutes to go, and he was absolutely everywhere! Saints couldn’t deal with the sheer numbers in the box as Fernandes was left wide open on the edge for his magic moment. The Portuguese right-back stayed composed, recovered possession and offered a physical presence throughout. The 23-year-old’s crunching tackle down the wing gave him an early boost of confidence and he never looked back. Another Elanga run inside set the goal in motion by freeing up space for Dalot, Sancho and Bruno in one fell swoop. Bruno’s ability to link passing moves together brought the likes of Sancho and Marcus Rashford into the game when they would have otherwise been completely isolated. There was a 15-minute spell just after half-time where our manager’s intelligence changed the course of the game. His calmness on the ball and ability to pick a simple pass also aided us in some tight positions as Southampton overloaded the flanks. He also showed real desire to bomb forward and aid the attack. Fernandes’s lethal winner sealed the win, in what was his second consecutive match wearing the captain's armband.

Pundit makes Lisandro Martinez claim after Harry Maguire dropped ... (Manchester Evening News)

Man United's new signing impressed against Liverpool after Erik ten Hag made the call to drop Maguire.

He said: "He's [Maguire's] got a new teammate in Martinez, who I was a bit sceptical of, in terms of, is he going to cope with the Premier League? "It wasn't pretty, but it's a necessity in football to make those blocks and to get yourself on the end of things. "But individually, is he in the headspace where he feels he can get the best from himself and the manager trusts that he can go into the team and perform? He's got a new manager, they're trying to play out from the back, I understand that they're in that transitional process. [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/): "It's been a period of time now where he's [Maguire's] been suffering in terms of individual performances and mobility situations, being a little bit clumsy with his feet and just having that sharpness hasn't been there for him. United were led in defence by the inspired performance of Martinez at the back as he chased down every ball and didn't allow the Liverpool front-line a moment to catch their breath.
