Ge Yue, Apple VP and managing director of Apple Greater China, gave her speech at the 2022 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai … NPR reports:.
I always thought it bonkers when using Siri on iPhones, for years users can place a call by saying “Hey Siri, call…”, but until now there’s been no “Hey Siri, end call” command. One reader spoke earlier this year about [small things making a big difference](https://9to5mac.com/2022/06/09/ios-16-accessibility/). AssistiveTouch on Apple Watch enables customers who have limb differences to more easily answer incoming calls, control an onscreen motion pointer, and access Notification Center, Control Center, and more. To support users with limited mobility, Apple is introducing a revolutionary new accessibility feature for Apple Watch. We are committed to manufacturing products that are truly suitable for everyone.” “We believe that the best products in the world should meet everyone’s needs,” she continued.

There are many millions of active mines and munitions estimated to be scattered in dozens of countries. The primary goal of mines and unexploded cluster munitions is to deny the use of roads and fields to enemy troops and vehicles. They have been in Oklahoma for two weeks, setting up grids of mines and munitions to train a drone-based, machine-learning-powered [detection system](https://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/12/5/859) to find and identify dangerous explosives so humans don’t have to. The problem is that mines and unexploded cluster munitions don’t “turn off” when a war ends. A small group of researchers struggle against the stiff wind to set up a pop-up tent for some shade. A warm wind blows across an empty field on the outskirts of Pawnee, Okla.
For those who appreciate good coffee – and the satisfaction of making it themselves – the KitchenAid Artisan Espresso Machine is a great fit.
That said, if you’re unsure if hands-on coffee making is for you, it may be better to start with a cheaper espresso machine, such as the [Breville Bijou](https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/breville-bijou-espresso-machine-vcf149). These include a portafilter with a level base, so it doesn’t rock while on the worktop, a heavy tamper, and a guideline that shows where to insert the portafilter into the machine and where to twist it to so that it locks into place. You can see a detailed breakdown of the questions we ask and why in our The distance the coffee travelled from the spout tended to affect the crema more: brewing into espresso cups sometimes produced a good thick layer of crema, other times just a slight ring around the edge. Still, arguably, the KitchenAid Artisan Espresso Machine combines the best of the two: giving it the ability to produce smooth espresso shots with as much, or as little, involvement as you prefer. While the principle of brewing espresso is similar to other machines – fill the portafilter basket with ground coffee, tamp it down, and twist into the machine – it’s the small touches that make the KitchenAid Artisan Espresso Machine easier to use. That’s because they come in single and double-walled versions: the two double walls create more consistent results, making them better for beginners, while the single walls brew a more full-bodied shot of espresso and give greater control for those who want it. A water tank carry handle and the ability to pop the lid off and fill in-situ also make it easier to keep the tank full. This makes it both an excellent machine for those looking to be more creative with coffee, as well as those in search of a reliable espresso shot every day. For those who appreciate good coffee – and the satisfaction of making it themselves – the KitchenAid Artisan Espresso Machine is a great fit. One which stands out is this sleek espresso maker, equipped with some automation to take the hassle out of brewing an authentic shot. Plus, it comes with a price tag that’s several times what a basic espresso machine can cost.
If we could fast forward through our lives and know exactly what we were going to need, then perhaps we could design a perfectly efficient educational ...
So instead, we design a system that provides students the opportunity to collect all the tools they can, which in turn leads to other opportunities and choices to design their future as they wish. The answer, obviously, is that they are building muscle power and endurance that will be used in competition. In the 2021 Super Bowl (31-9, Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the Kansas City Chiefs), one of the biggest plays of the game was a beautiful little eight-yard pass that took Tampa Bay into the end zone from the 8 yard line. The action of operating a weight machine is something they will never, ever use during competition. It was, an economist might argue, a waste of time and money to play all those parts of the game that did not obviously affect the final outcome. So, clearly, the time spent letting the Astros bat was wasted, nor was there any need to play any of the other innings in which nobody scored.

By Dr. May Wang - Why has machine learning become so vital in cybersecurity? This article answers that and explores several challenges that are inherent ...
The goal of machine learning is to make security more efficient and scalable in an effort to help save labor and prevent unknown attacks. Instead of having to manually navigate around different conflicting access control lists for different devices and network segments, machine learning can make specific recommendations that work in an automated approach. Machine learning supports modern cybersecurity solutions in a number of different ways. Automated anomaly detection: Using machine learning to rapidly identify known bad behaviors is a great use case for security. And that is the kind of scale organizations truly need to protect themselves in the escalating threat landscape. If a machine learning system mistakes a fraudulent data packet for a legitimate one that leads to an attack against a hospital and its devices, the impact of the mis-categorization can be severe. There has been research in this area in academics, and we are glad to see and contribute to the Not a single malware database can claim to cover all the malware in the world, and more malware is being generated at any moment. That’s where we found it is critical to make sure ML data scientists work together with security researchers, even though they don’t speak the same language, use different methodologies, and have different ways of thinking and different approaches. We will discuss three unique challenges for applying ML to cybersecurity and three common but more severe challenges in cybersecurity. Only machine learning can address the increasing number of challenges in cybersecurity: scaling up security solutions, detecting unknown attacks and detecting advanced attacks, including polymorphic malware. Machine learning (ML) is a commonly used term across nearly every sector of IT today.

Ultimately, Protopia AI’s Stained-Glass Transforms minimize leakage of the sensitive information entangled in inferencing data — which, in many cases, is the barrier to using the data for machine learning and AI. Synthetic Data: Another method to protect sensitive training data is just training the ML model using Synthetic Data. This is a membership test on the training data records and it ensures if a single data record is removed from the dataset, the output should not change beyond a certain threshold. Federated Learning: To protect training data, Google presented Federated Learning [1], a distributed learning framework in which the devices on which data are locally stored collaboratively learn a shared ML model without the need to expose training data to a centralized training platform. The target model is still trained with the common practices and using the original data. Protopia AI’s solution enables decoupling the ownership of data from where and on which platform the inferencing is performed. With Protopia AI, the specific target machine learning model is still able to perform accurate inferencing without the need to reverse the transformation. Protopia AI’s patented technology enables Stained Glass Transforms™ to reduce the information content in inferencing data to increase data security and enable privacy-preserving inference. The low-overhead and nonintrusive nature of Stained Glass Transforms™ enables enterprises to secure the ownership of their data in increasingly complex environments by dynamically applying the transformations in data pipelines for every record. One of the most critical challenges that companies are facing today is understanding how to handle and protect their own data while using it to improve their businesses through ML solutions. In recent years, ML researchers have proposed different methods to protect the data that will be used by ML models. We may think that data is at risk when these algorithms recommend and direct our purchases on social media or monitor our doorways, elderly, and youngsters, but that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Since then, Peloton has revealed it will enter the indoor rower space and while we can't say for definite the Hydrow Wave is a response to a Peloton rower, it ...
I definitely felt that the Hydrow Wave was a little quieter than the first machine. Even at the lower price it’s not cheap, and you can pay less for a connected rower, but Hydrow gets more things right than the competition. The workouts can be short and sweet or you can go longer and there’s a good filter to find something to suit your mood. That said I found the resistance, which Hydrow says is designed to mimic rowing on the water, smooth and the workouts challenging. Other than the smaller frame and screen, you get a virtually identical experience to the original machine. You can also keep track of your weekly and monthly progress, see workout summaries and previous workouts completed, and take part in the challenges to secure prizes for hitting milestones. If you’re a first-timer, you’re greeted by an introductory video explaining the Hydrow story and then you’re into your home screen. It does lose some of the immersive quality, but it’s still a great-quality display to view workouts on and interact with. While the frame feels familiar, Hydrow has swapped aluminium and steel for a polycarbonate material to keep both the price and weight down. It weighs 46kg and there are wheels at the front to help you manoeuvre it around a room. There’s also the NordicTrack RW900 rower for $1,799/£1,999, which has an integrated touchscreen display and links to the iFit app which is priced at a mere $15/£10 a month. The Hydrow Wave was released in the US on 8th July 2022 and costs $1,495.

Now, you can access the same extensive workout library (over 4,000 are now available on the Hydrow platform) for less using the Wave rower. Both machines have a max user weight of 375 lbs (170 kg) and fit up to a 36” inseam – not bad for a small rower! The new Wave is 'designed to address two of the biggest barriers' preventing people from trying rowing machines – space and cost – and in fact, it's significantly lighter and £600 less than the original Hydrow.
Researchers increase the accuracy and efficiency of a machine-learning method that safeguards user data. Date: September 8, 2022; Source: Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Summary: Researchers developed a system that streamlines the process ...
In one experiment, a traditional federated learning approach produced a model that was 45 megabytes in size, while their technique generated a model with the same accuracy that was only 5 megabytes. "This work shows the importance of thinking about these problems from a holistic aspect, and not just individual metrics that have to be improved. These users start the federated learning process with a leaner model that has already been optimized by a subset of other users. "A lot of papers have addressed one of the problems of federated learning, but the challenge was to put all of this together. With FedLTN, the worst-performing clients still saw a performance boost of more than 10 percent. When they put FedLTN to the test in simulations, it led to better performance and reduced communication costs across the board. They also trained the model before pruning it, which makes it more accurate so it can be pruned at a faster rate, Mugunthan explains. In addition, when the models were all combined, they made use of information stored in the central server so it wasn't starting from scratch for each round of communication. We wanted to be sure we were able to optimize for everything, so this technique could actually be used in the real world," says Vaikkunth Mugunthan PhD '22, lead author of a paper that introduces this technique. Their method boosts the accuracy of the combined machine-learning model while significantly reducing its size, which speeds up communication between users and the central server. Federated learning is a collaborative method for training a machine-learning model that keeps sensitive user data private. The researchers developed a technique that can simultaneously address these three problems of federated learning.
Chitkara University-incubated startup GFF Innovations has curated a machine called Moksh that collects crop stubble and turns it into a biofuel.
Besides undertaking large scale trials of Moksh 2.0, the company plans to develop more machines and scale up operation in other states. Right now, it is operating the machines itself and sustaining operations from sale of the fuel. The latter is being developed for larger scale waste management, and will be priced in the range of Rs 3-4 lakh. The powder is touted as a sustainable alternative source of energy. The third step is removal of Silica, a pollutant, from the dried-out stubble, for which it is processed with an alkaline base along with microwave technology. We have approached several juice companies and other off-season use cases are being developed and carried out simultaneously,” says Nitin. “Since it (rice paddy stubble) is a seasonal business, we are looking at managing other materials like fruit waste. As a first step, the vehicle runs over the farm to pick up the stubble waste, which contains about 70-80% water. Nitin explains, “Impact drying is much quicker and practical as compared to any other conventional heating solution. This residue can then be used as an alternative fuel for heating by boilers and brick kilns as a raw material (binding agent) for making bricks, fibreboards, sustainable packaging solutions, or in insulation paints. Then why do farmers continue to burn the waste, even after the practice is banned by the authorities? “There is no concrete solution to stubble management.

The “plenty of lather with less detergent” claim was definitely true, and we could easily see why the Duskin sponge is so popular. It foamed up a lot more than the Lawson sponge — look at all that foam! Dropping a dollop of dishwashing liquid on the Lawson sponge, we lightly wet it with water and squeezed it two to three times until some fine bubbles emerged.
