The fact that the twins were shown together despite being estranged in the game's story has already sparked theories that the anime will feature a prequel or original story of some kind. The reveal trailer for the Genshin Impact anime is largely a fly-by tour of Mondstadt, Genshin Impact's first region. "After a lot of painstaking work, we are happy to present you with this surprise on our anniversary and officially announce the animation collaboration project between Genshin Impact and ufotable," Hoyoverse marketing head Michael says on-stream, at least confirming that this is indeed an anime of some kind.

It would be curious to see if it’s an adaptation done a la the Demon Slayer Movie: Mugen Train so that complete story arcs can be told in one feature film. While it’s certainly not dubbed as an anime project per se in the “concept trailer”, there’s no mistaking that it is indeed a Genshin Impact anime in some shape and form because it’s ufotable, whose adaptation of Demon Slayer is pretty much universally loved. And towards the end of the trailer, we can see Aether and Lumine standing side-by-side, holding hands. The trailer contained mostly scenes from the Mondstadt region.

It’s a trailer that doesn’t do much more than tell you that Genshin Impact’s going to be an anime and shows off the game’s world, but dang if it doesn’t look beautiful. And what’s more, it’s a “long-term project,” which means it won’t be a one-off handful of episodes, though that’s not clear if it means it’ll be a straight adaptation of the game’s story. And with how popular it’s become, it’s the perfect time for it to get an anime.
