Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had a three-way rivalry that made each of them better — and was awfully fun to watch.

Sure, without all three of you in the mix, maybe one of you alone would hold all 63 Grand Slam titles. People can argue back and forth why any one of you is the greatest of all time. We are all blessed to have watched all of you play against each other. (Ironically, that's the same number of Grand Slams that Pete Sampras won, before the Big Three came on the scene and obliterated his reign as the GOAT.) It's not the Olympics. It's not the NBA championship.

Laver Cup 2022: teams, captains, matches, schedule and results (AS English)

The 2022 Laver Cup will go down in history as the last time the Big Four will play together at the same tournament as Team Europe take on Team World.

The Australian enjoyed his best season to date this year, reaching the Wimbledon final and winning the Australian Open in doubles and would have been a considerable test for any of Team Europe, which contains five top-10 players (if Federer’s protected ranking of nine is taken into account). Captains can pick and choose who to use on days 2 and 3, with all players playing at least one singles game and at least four different players from each team competing in doubles. Roger Federer, who [announced his retirement ](https://en.as.com/other_sports/federer-on-bowing-out-i-totally-overachieved-in-my-mind-n/)from the ATP Tour last week, was one of the driving forces behind the Laver Cup, [which was inaugurated in 2017 ](https://en.as.com/other_sports/laver-cup-what-is-it-how-does-it-work-atp-points-and-format-n/)as an annual tournament pitting the best players from Europe against the rest of the world over three days. Team World came close to upsetting the odds in 2019 in Geneva, assuming an 11-7 lead on the final day before Federer beat John Isner and Zverev saw off Milos Raonic to lead Team Europe to victory. Federer will only play doubles and it remains to be seen if Nadal will compete in singles. The decider will be a doubles match. In case of a 12-12 tie at the end of 24 matches, a fifth match (Decider) on Sunday is played to determine the winner. Every player has to compete in at least one singles match in the first two days and no player can complete in more than two singles match in the competition. In case of a tie, the third set will be a 10-point match tie-breaker. Both singles and doubles will be a best-of-three match with ad scoring. Federer announced his intention to retire from tennis at the end of the Laver Cup event, following his continued struggle with knee injury.

On Friday, Roger Federer will play the last professional tennis match of his storied career at the Laver Cup. Here's what to watch.

The first team to 13 points wins the competition and if it's tied at 12-12, a deciding fifth match will be played. Alongside Federer and Nadal on Team Europe will be Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray -- the first time the Big Four have all played at the Laver Cup at the same time. Of course I will enjoy it, but it will be hard." "Of course it's super-special playing with Rafa," Federer said. Federer won eight Wimbledon titles, six Australian Opens, five US Opens and one French Open title, dominating men's tennis for many years. The event, created by Federer and his agent, Tony Godsick, pits teams of six players against each other.
