Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the early game in the Champions League as Premier League big boys Manchester City arrive in Denmark to face FC ...
It means the likes of Alvarez gets a chance to show his undoubted talent. The record for Champions League goals stands at a remarkable 140 set by Cristiano Ronaldo in his spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus. Even so, the Norwegian goal machine would likely need at least eight, nine or more seasons at the top of his game in the Champions League to trouble Ronaldo’s efforts. This time Mahrez jinks his way into the box and then chips the ball to around the penalty area. It's a left-footed half-volley this time and the Spaniard gets it all wrong. Well, it sort of makes sense, doesn't it, to leave out the big Norwegian. The Algerian chooses to side foot his effort to the keeper's right but Grabara picks well and pushes it away. Maybe they are in a shock given the tonking they faced last week. Copenhagen build again and the blond locks of Haraldsson are again in view as the Icelandic teen controls, steps away and strikes. He gives the spot kick and Mahrez steps up. It's still unlikely given the quality of this City side but they have a chance. We're back underway and the lively crowd is immediately back and making plenty of noise.
Manchester City face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League at Parken Stadium, one win away from qualifying from Group G.
Ake was very interesting on the lack of a weakness in the striker’s game and how difficult he is to defend against even in training. He played 45 minutes in the home fixture a week ago but is amongst the substitutes for the first time in his City career this evening. Against Southampton at the weekend, it was Dias and Ake in the centre, with Akanji at right-back. Then, he was very lively making plenty of runs to stretch the defence, and when he’s played there off the bench without Haaland around, he’s caused problems too. That’s a big call from Guardiola to drop Haaland, although it was a decision that was going to come at some point. Akanji and Laporte are given the opportunity to play at the heart of the back four. More minutes for Laporte is certainly a good thing while Akanji will be pleased to play in his more favourable position of central defence after filling in at right back vs Southampton. This is a perfect chance to give him more game time, allow Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake to get a rest, and keep the competition high in the back line. He might still have a point to prove tonight. They’re making quite a noise as well, jumping up and down in unison in the two-tiered stand with half an hour still to go until the game gets underway. I think the fact they’re so dominant in all competitions, it gives Pep [Guardiola] an opportunity to rotate, rest players at the right times. Kick-off at the Parken Stadium is at 5.45pm (BST) but stay tuned in the meantime for all the team news and build-up. Jacob Neestrup speaks: “City will undoubtedly have a lot of possession again but hopefully we will have more sequences where we have the ball on our own feet,” said the Copenhagen manager. Only seventh in the Danish league table after 12 games, Copenhagen drew 1-1 with leaders Nordsjælland at the weekend. 2 min: A dipping Kevin De Bruyne cross to the far post is deflected out for a corner. He pulls the ball across the face of goal and masked Copenhagen goalkeeper Kamil Grabera touches it wide of his far post. Copenhagen have a free-kick right on the edge of the City penalty area. 19 min: Lukas Lerager is teed up outside the City penalty area and sends a shot arrowing towards goal. Haraldsson shoots straight into the City wall, wherethe ball is blocked by Manuel Akanji. 20 min: Kevin De Bruyne has a shot high and wide for another City corner. He plays a crossfield ball towards Grealish, with help from Rodri but City are unable to forge an opening and are forced backwards. 48 min: Copenhagen win a corner, Rodri putting the ball out of play under pressure. They play their way upfield, beating City’s press but are unable to fashion anything in the way of a goalscoring opportunity.

30 minutes: Sergio Gomez was sent off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity after he was caught the wrong side of Haraldsson.
But lately we were lucky to score goals in the first half and at the beginning of the second, then after we can rotate. Deramy led the counter-attack but City snuffed it out and launched a break of their own. Unless Pep Guardiola decides to rest him of course, which is a possibility given City travel to Liverpool on Sunday. A Ederson diagonal to the left wing was cut out and Haraldsson picked out Lerager with a pull-back behind the City defence. The players need to know everything to play in the top teams. Another brace tonight would see the City striker draw level with Wayne Rooney and Kaka for Champions League goals. Out of nothing really, but City have the lead thanks to a spectacular strike by Rodri. It is still a team you expect to have far too much for Copenhagen. Really nasty collision here from a City corner, with Akanji falling back on to the leg of Boilesen. Play stops for a while after a clash of heads between Gomez and Claesson. Copenhagen do now have a corner after a pass into the box takes a flick off Rodri. Grealish brought down on halfway again, and gestures 'FOUR' to the referee, referencing the number of times Khocholava has fouled him so far tonight.
Considering we're in Scandinavia, those are positively balmy conditions! 16:05. Fresh look. You may have noticed our Matchday Centre is different ...
City decked out in our beautifully bright yellow training jacket. Ederson has a rare lapse in concentration with the ball at his feet. The atmosphere is building in the Parken Stadium... Luckily for us, it rolls just wide of the goal and it's Copenhagen's first corner. A light show here at Parken Stadium - with a rendition of the Boomtown Rats ringing out. There’s a great wall of noise over to my left – the Copenhagen fans packed in behind that goal, who have been here for hours, are making plenty of noise.
Manchester City can qualify for the Champions League knockout stages if they beat FC Copenhagen tonight.
