We've really missed days like this, so it's great to have fans back.”

“He is experienced,” said the Dutchman. “He has a huge impact on the game by winning so many balls and always in good positions to receive balls, to link up, to pass around, and he was really important with the goal. Of course, you know what happened next. In addition to affecting the ball directly, he could be seen barking orders to his team-mates throughout our match against Everton, as the Reds weathered a late storm from the hosts to see out a vital three points. When the 30-year-old arrived from Real Madrid in August, he brought with him a strong reputation as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. Of course, as is expected of a player still adapting to life in the Premier League, there were a couple of rogue passes and lapses in concentration, but Casemiro dealt with the pressure well.

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates 700th goal with Man United teammates (Old Trafford Faithful)

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal against Everton yesterday. Today, he elebrated the incredible accolade with his Man United teammates.

I feel like Ronaldo will be here for the full season, purely because I don’t reckon there’s a club out there that’ll be willing to take on his huge wages in the mid-season window. A goal made in Madrid. The game itself was a close affair, though you always felt like United were in control.

Cristiano Ronaldo scores his first Premier League goal of the season and his 144th for Manchester United across two spells.

He is now 10 club goals ahead of his once great rival Lionel Messi. Substitute Ronaldo then entered the fray unexpectedly early after Anthony Martial picked up an injury and took only 14 minutes to score his first Premier League goal of the season, his 144th for United across two spells. The visitors, however, responded much better this time around and soon levelled things up as big-money signing Antony slotted home, the Brazilian becoming the first United player to score in his first three Premier League appearances.

Manchester United transfer news LIVE (Manchester Evening News)

Keep up to date with all the latest Man United build-up and transfer rumours in our blog updates.

I congratulate him on that performance and I'm also happy it's his first goal this season in the Premier League - he had to wait for it and I'm sure there will be more goals. And once they have some goals, they come in the flow and games go easier. United manager Erik ten Hag selected Martial for his first Premier League start in over a year at Everton but he ended his warm-up early. For me, as a centre-back, in a game like this or any type of game in this league, you need someone in front of you who knows how to marshal that space in front to not give away opportunities. I'm not too concerned with him on the ball, he will give it to the players who are there to create. He has the experience and understands football. It was Casemiro who leaped like Ronaldo to outjump Amadou Onana when United were confined to their own penalty area in the 95th minute. The Manchester Evening News revealed last month that United are expected to trigger one-year options in five players' contracts before the January window closes and De Gea is on that list, along with Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Fred and Marcus Rashford. De Gea is United's second-highest earner after Cristiano Ronaldo and he's now spent more than 11 years at the club. Ronaldo fired home from the left hand side of the box just before the interval to send the game out of sight for Everton. That goal meant Antony broke Zlatan Ibrahimovic's record and became the first United player to score in his opening three Premier League games for the club. But United hit back 10 minutes later as Antony placed a shot beyond Jordan Pickford.

Nobody expected that when he signed for United towards the end of the transfer window – and all credit to him. He grew into the match and it was a delight to watch him work. This really was a complete performance from the ex-Southampton left-back. I really want it to work. What made this win particularly pleasing was the fact that it came after a poor derby day loss last time out. Defensively, the Englishman was every bit as good as his Dutch colleague has been recently, while we all know his attacking qualities.

Manchester United are now doing what Erik ten Hag wants (Manchester Evening News)

A fifth Premier League win of the season for Man United signalled another progressive step in their development under their manager.

Before the hiding they copped in the regressive defeat at City, United played as a team, a feat beyond them for most of last season. Again, a sub coming on and scoring a goal, you see Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Rapha Varane coming in, so we do more than 11 players and I am happy with that process." "Everyone has to take responsibility and Martial also took his responsibility by giving the assist on the first goal," Ten Hag stressed. "You see the spirit in this game is really well, not only the 11 players - it's a squad. Both were more instant transformations from defence into attack, especially the winner from Casemiro's interception and prompt pass. Ronaldo was off for auspicious opportunities in each half. United had 62 per cent possession at Goodison, a predictable statistic, only their ball domination was not sterile. United moved the ball slickly and incisively. It enabled United to train in sunny Cyprus on Friday and afforded them 72 hours' recovery time. Goodison Park can be a bear pit but was so humdrum you wondered whether the crowd would have rather been at home watching the Strictly Come Dancing results. We have to keep the process going." How apposite Christian Eriksen, a proven safe-cracker, was geeing up teammates while Alex Iwobi and teammates savoured his classy curler.

Manchester United players rushed to him when they went ahead and Erik ten Hag embraced him at full-time. No, not Cristiano Ronaldo; Casemiro.

He ought to have crowned his performance with a headed goal at 1-1 that would have stolen Ronaldo's thunder. It is a knack a few of his teammates could still do with inheriting. It is a mark of quality when a player recovers from erring in the same game. The Scot collected his fifth domestic yellow card of the campaign in eight appearances on Sunday. He turns 26 in December and there is still uncertainty over how best to utilise him. One touch to win it and one touch to play it. "Yeah, difficult, I don't know," Ten Hag began when asked about Casemiro's start to the game. It originated from a careless Casemiro pass before he maintained his position and pick-pocketed Iwobi. Rewatch his assist for Ronaldo and Casemiro has to tease the ball past Onana's boot to find Ronaldo. His piercing pass for Ronaldo is a skill that is beyond the bustling McTominay. Overhit it and Ronaldo is forced wide and the one-on-one is gone.
