City decked out in our beautifully bright yellow training jacket. Ederson has a rare lapse in concentration with the ball at his feet. The atmosphere is building in the Parken Stadium... Luckily for us, it rolls just wide of the goal and it's Copenhagen's first corner. A light show here at Parken Stadium - with a rendition of the Boomtown Rats ringing out. There’s a great wall of noise over to my left – the Copenhagen fans packed in behind that goal, who have been here for hours, are making plenty of noise.

Why Erling Haaland's Release Clause Should Not Worry ... (Forbes)

If he is happy at City in two years’ time, then City could offer him a new contract and end up staying in Manchester for the rest of his career. Many of the other most expensive transfers in soccer have not been anywhere near as successful as imagined. And on top of the transfer fee will be an agent’s fee, which could be more than $50 million, as well as Haaland’s wages. Barcelona’s financial difficulties have been well documented and could get even worse should they fail to make the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League. Haaland is already playing for a club that is competing for the top honors in world soccer, and is already beamed around the world at Manchester City. It’s almost twice Real Madrid’s record transfer fee of $110 million, which they paid for Eden Hazard.

Pep Guardiola revealed after Tuesday night's goalless draw in Copenhagen that a number of his stars were 'exhausted', with City not calling on Erling Haaland from the bench in the Champions League. The Manchester City midfielder said of Jurgen Klopp's team: 'Obviously they lost some points but they are still Liverpool'

“I have always got the feeling that at one point they can just bounce back because they have a quality manager and all the players are quality,” the defender said. They are more of an up-and-down team and we are a team who has more control of the game, so if you can control that style of play then maybe you have more of a chance. “I don’t look at it that way – obviously they lost some points but they are still Liverpool and I expect them to be good; that’s the only way I see it.” It is never easy to go there so we have to make sure we are in a good place.” “The last few years we’ve done well, even last year if we didn’t win, so I think it’s probably going to be a good game again,” De Bruyne said. “Maybe we have more control of the game.

It was, though, a precious 90 minutes rest for the Norwegian after a hectic start to the life at the Etihad Stadium and with a visit to Anfield on the horizon.

Plus: How much carnage will a refreshed Erling Haaland cause? Heung-Min Son peaks at important time for Spurs; And do England have a right-back problem ...

Celtic's Champions League hopes are over and it will be tough for them to secure the consolation of Europa League football. A squad of 26 players might allow room for several who are not at optimum fitness but in the same position? It was his pass in behind Fikayo Tomori that led to the moment that took the game away from Milan. Mason Mount was only on the pitch for 45 minutes at the San Siro as Chelsea cruised to victory in Milan. Even so, the performance he produced was up there with his best in a Chelsea shirt. But what should be England's strongest area of the pitch has suddenly become even more complicated for Gareth Southgate. It will be interesting to know what Haaland thought of Guardiola's decision to leave him on the bench, though. The performance up until then had been fairly convincing with the front three of Kane, Son and Richarlison all clicking together nicely. Only Erling Haaland (23) has more goal involvements for a Premier League club in all competitions this season than Firmino, who has eight goals and four assists to his name. Those were not the words of Jurgen Klopp but you get the impression he would have liked to have gone down that Didi Hamman route when pressed after Liverpool's rampant showing at Ibrox which ended up being Rangers' biggest-ever home defeat in a competitive home match. His boys were stagnating in attack with Darwin Nunez fumbling and stumbling across the front line and they were being cut open at the other end. Klopp will be hoping this is just the start, with Liverpool's great rivals coming into view this Sunday.

Erling Haaland release clause changes nothing for Man City (Manchester Evening News)

Erling Haaland has a release clause in his Manchester City contract but supporters should not be worried.

The term 'release clause' can sound a little scary, but City supporters need not panic. In fact, having a non-Premier League release clause might be even better than having no clause at all. City did not want to sell Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus or Raheem Sterling, but they stuck to their word once a suitable offer dropped into their inbox. However, when you think about it, the situation is actually no different to how City usually conduct their transfer business. Not only that, the sum will decrease - no values have specified as of yet - from 2024 onwards, until the end of his contract in 2027. Los Blancos were City's main competitors for Haaland's signature, and now they know the specific price they would have to reach to avoid drawn out negotiations.
