Apparently, around 11 per cent of the population is left-handed so KFC has attempted to right its wrongs by offering the “Left-Handed menu” — 11,000 items for $1 at 1pm AEDT every day for 11 days. The number of days seems a bit arbitrary but it’s because KFC realised it’s been advertising its fried chook with right-handed models for years, leaving the lefties out of the picture.

Bowling has started a family business with her six KFC locations and is known as a leader and mentor at Yum Brands for other franchisees.

I also have another daughter involved and two grandsons working in the restaurants, so it’s definitely a family business. I think there are a lot of franchisees that started [as crew members] and KFC is such a good brand to work for. Out of 10 managers that we have at our restaurants, seven are women, and most of them are people that we have grown through our business and developed into leaders. I was 26 years old and we had three small children but I decided to go back into KFC to help run that business, which really got me in the door as a franchisee. Eventually, I met my husband at KFC so we got married, left the business for a while, but then he had an opportunity to buy a franchise, and we partnered with another franchisee to work our way up to that. We spoke about how Bowling climbed the corporate ladder at KFC and became a mentor to other female leaders.

Fast food outlet KFC has been dealing with a number of complaints on social media that their classic side dish is now tasting “watery” and “plastic”.

Add the Vegemite and thyme and whisk until smooth, then simmer for a good 15 minutes. Drizzle with extra olive oil or top with a knob of butter before serving. The potato and gravy, a staple of any visit to KFC, is no longer up to scratch in some people’s minds. The idea is to cook the flour until lightly golden, so it doesn't taste raw. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Combine and you’re away laughing with no chance of it cooling down before you pull out of the drive through.
