Goalkeeping brothers bring family rivalry to pitch (BBC News)

When Falkirk FC played Alloa Athletic, brothers Nicky and Jay Hogarth went head to head in goals.

"But we didn't expect it to happen so soon. Barry, then 20, scored in one fixture at East End Park while Derek made his last appearance at Ibrox in the same season. "Going into it we just had to treat it as any other game. John has also subsequently played with his other older brother Paul for Scotland. "Obviously it didn't turn out the best for us. McGinn came up against elder brother Stephen when John was playing for Hibernian in the Scottish Championship in 2017 against his first club, St Mirren.

Lincoln: Youths' anti-social behaviour sparks dispersal order (BBC News)

The order at Lincoln's Carlton Centre follows disruption by a group of up to 20 youths, police say.

The dispersal order prohibited groups of youths gathering in the car parks or businesses and those who did were liable to arrest, it added. A force spokesperson said disruptive and intimidating behaviour by groups of youths had significantly increased in the last month, with officers called out as many as five times in one evening. There had been multiple reports of anti-social behaviour by groups of up to 20 youths recently, the force said.

Lincolnshire GP receptionists taught to spot loneliness signs (BBC News)

Around 1 in 4 people in Lincolnshire reported feeling lonely some of the time during the pandemic.

Government research suggests a reduction in loneliness from "severe' to "moderate" would have the same wellbeing benefit to the average person as a rise in income of £9,537 per year. The Campaign to End Loneliness, who are supporting the initiative, said around 1 in 4 people in Lincolnshire reported feeling lonely either often or at least some of the time during the pandemic. Doctors' receptionists in Lincolnshire are being taught to spot the signs of loneliness.

The BBC marks scenes from my life, as it must do for millions – aren't ... (The Guardian)

Listening to music with my mother, doing my homework, reporting from India: it has always been there, says Guardian columnist Ian Jack.

[Television](https://www.theguardian.com/culture/television) has a list of formidable achievements; BBC Radio flourishes in its shade. As a reporter in a shabby Indian hotel room, trying to locate the World Service on a shortwave radio; as a son coming home late one night to find his father amazed and amused at the satire of That Was the Week That Was; as a schoolboy doing his Sunday-night homework to the genteel waltzes of Max Jaffa and his Palm Court Orchestra. [It’s That Man Again](https://www.bbc.com/historyofthebbc/anniversaries/july/its-that-man-again/) that I began to believe I’d heard the comedy series myself. [loathed the BBC](https://winstonchurchill.org/publications/churchill-bulletin/bulletin-053-nov-2012/winston-churchills-bitter-battle-with-the-bbc/), wanted the Ministry of Information to be the sole supplier of the wartime narrative. Before, it had simply existed as noises – music, speech, laughter, applause, sound effects, doors being knocked (“Can I do you now, sir?”), splashing (“He’s fallen in the water”). [BBC](https://www.theguardian.com/media/bbc) out of its social conservatism and massively expanded its operation. George Orwell, then a talk producer with the Eastern service, believed that by comparison with the enemy’s propaganda streams “our little corner” had been kept “fairly clean”. [Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5APc0z49wg) from the musical Oklahoma. a big fire, railway accidents, pit accidents, or any other major catastrophes in which the public, I fear, is deeply interested”. By the mid-1930s, it had managed to set up a news department, but even so it employed no reporters, only text editors who fashioned news items from copy supplied by Reuters. [Lord Reith](https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14490457.founding-scot-launched-bbc-inform-educate-entertain-mantra/), but until 1939 none of these aims had been fulfilled in any great style. In the kitchen, steam rises from the sink and my mother squeezes sopping wet clothes through the mangle.

Ukraine war: 'I'd rather go to jail than fight in Ukraine', Russian man ... (BBC News)

Russia has mobilised many thousands of men to fight in Ukraine. But Mikhail Ashichev refuses to go.

The state will consider me a criminal if I don't go and fight in this war. With the call-up of hundreds of thousands of Russian reservists, the war in Ukraine became much more real for the Russian public. This week President Putin was shown allegedly meeting mobilised soldiers at a training ground in the Ryazan region, an attempt to rally public support for the mobilisation effort. According to Vladimir Putin, more than 220,000 Russian reservists have been called up since the Russian president declared "partial mobilisation" last month. But in this particular case I believe that there is no military threat to my Motherland." Suddenly there was I saying the things I was saying.
