We recap the Netflix K-Drama series The Interest of Love season 1, episode 1, which contains significant spoilers.

When Sang-su gets to the restaurant, Su-yeong is not at the table, and he is devastated. He has to restrain himself and admits to another colleague that he likes Su-yeong afterward. On the way home, Sang-su asks Su-yeong if she’s “fine” after the meal. Su-yeong waits at the restaurant, but Sang-su has to stay behind at work until the balance books are correct. The next day, he struggles to communicate with her about what happened, making work an awkward place. On the plane, Sang-su reminisces about the days he joined the bank when he was a rookie. His manager has put pressure on him to correct things before he leaves, meaning he’s left Su-yeong at the restaurant. Su-yeong explains she doesn’t like “undefined relationships.” They agree on the specifics of their next date, and Sang-su promises to commit to the day and time. The pair then talk about art, and Su-yeong explains she could not go to art school because her parents couldn’t afford it. Episode 1 of The Interest of Love opens with the everyday workings of a bank. The opening episode of the aptly named The Interest of Love follows bank workers Ahn Su-yeong (Moon Ga-young) and Ha Sang-su (Yoo Yeon-seok) as an apparent romance starts to bubble. Of course, Su-yeong has her own issues, but in the first episode, her walls are too high up for me actually to take a look inside. However, as date night rolls around, Sang-su finds himself unable to correct the balance and is the only one left working at the office as Su-yeong waits for him at the restaurant. Just as they are about to part ways for the night, he asks her out on another date, and after a rather oddly framed question, she mentions that she doesn’t like undefined relationships. I am so confused as to where this series is going and who is the crazier of our principal characters. With another character on their way and one rising the ranks, I am sure there will be tons of drama to sift through in the future. The college-era love is honestly cute, and thus, when he asks her out and she accepts, he is left speechless and eventually bouncing in joy. After the work is done, Sang-su asks Su-yeong whether she has a boyfriend, and although she is uncomfortable, she answers that she doesn’t have one. When the weekend arrives, Sang-su is just as excited for his date with Su-yeong and even does a face pack before going out. Either way, it’s a good time for the two, and it is sort of apparent that they both have a crush on each other. When the mistake is caught, Sang-su gets an earful from his superior, and so does Su-yeong for handing her client over to Sang-su. When they finally meet Seong-hun, he turns out to be a rather pleasant guy who understands the mistake and doesn’t think anything of it. The Interest of Love episode 1 starts with Sang-su looking enchanted at Su-yeong just as the KCU Bank’s Youngpo branch.

Gyeong-pil reminds Sang-su to think about what he actually feels for her and whether he is actually serious about the relationship. That includes the others badgering her about her boyfriend or Sang-su cornering her and asking her whether she will go on the blind date. Later, Sang-su and Mi-gyeong are asked to take up a task together, and that’s when she reminds him that they went to school together. Everyone’s interest is immediately piqued, and they start to suck up to the new employee as soon as she sets foot. When she gives in to the request, clearly to make them stop asking, he looks disappointed. At lunch, Sang-su asks Gyeong-pil about Jong-hyun, but the latter shoots him down and teases him about his crush. Sang-su tries to talk to Su-yeong while handing her her drink, but she feigns ignorance when he brings the topic up, putting him in an awkward situation. The Interest of Love episode 2 starts with Su-yeong travelling to Seoul for the first time and getting her apartment, eventually securing a place at KCU Bank. However, Mi-gyeong seems to be steady in her resolve to work at the bank. He immediately jumps into a nearby store so as not to be seen and buys coffee for the entire office. Either way, Sang-su is disturbed by the entire ordeal and gets blackout drunk with his friends after a hockey match. Meanwhile, Sang-su is left annoyed after the conversation that he had with Su-yeong the other night.
