Cesar Azpilicueta on the brink of yet more Chelsea history (Chelsea FC)

Cesar Azpilicueta may have already won it all in blue, but when he plays his next game for Chelsea our captain will break yet more new ground...

[Cesar Azpilicueta](/en/teams/profile/cesar-azpilicueta) will become our leading overseas appearance maker, a remarkable achievement considering Chelsea are a club with a long and proud history of foreign players. Now only Ron Harris (795 games), Peter Bonetti (729), John Terry (717), Frank Lampard (648) and John Hollins (592) have made more appearances for the club in our history. With his sub appearance against Bournemouth on Tuesday, Azpilicueta moved level with Petr Cech in our all-time appearance list.

He was voted Player of the Match on The 5th Stand.

The defence of our Champions League crown didn’t go to plan, but it did give us a crack at the Europa League, formerly the UEFA Cup, for the first time. Just as in the FA Cup final the year before, a replay was required after Peter Osgood’s opener was cancelled out. Tommy Docherty’s young Blues side edged out Leicester City in a two-legged League Cup final, only the fifth in the competition’s history.
