[YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/user/Cacophanus). This is not to say that the school related episodes were boring, they weren’t at all, but I wasn’t sure where the series was really going. However, this is where all the human drama kicks in, and what was once a somewhat cute school related story has now gone full classical Gundam. There’s also a ton of parental horrors going on as well, from full blown patricide to whole power structures seemingly being blown away in just one episode. These are noteworthy as they use the outdated GUND Format technology, but to a higher level that would normally kill their pilots but somehow don’t. In that, it’s clear that Earth is under the boot of Spacian corporations, who actually ruined Earth as they chased profit across our Solar System. Something the various school-based duelling episodes helped to cover, but we didn’t really get the world building pay-off until this episode. YOASOBI & Ichiro Ohkouchi Talk 'Witch From Mercury' Theme Song (Billboard)

Matching the desires of the series' creator to share Gundam with even more people by expanding its audience, YOASOBI wrote the show's opening song.

At the end of the novel, when Suletta chooses to confront her situation head-on instead of fleeing, the Aerial tells her ‘I’m here with you.’ I hope that the Aerial’s kindness and Suletta’s power come through in the song.” The name The Witch from Mercury conjures to mind images of “curses” and “spells.” Ayase talked about the creation process that led them to “The Blessing.” “At first, I was just kind of thinking, ‘What’s the opposite of a curse?’ I’m not sure if it would be a blessing, but reading through the novel and other materials, there were these different situations involving people encouraging and supporting each other, which, I felt, threw the curses into sharper relief. We hoped to make a song that would remain fresh, with new things to discover each time you listened to it, instead of just keeping the impression it made when you first heard it.” I wanted to make it a song that developed along with the heroine, so that it felt different as the story went along, and its emotional impact flowed with the story.” Writing about the adults around her would result in a song that doesn’t really match the series. Ohkouchi explains why: “Suletta starts out unaware of what’s really going on, so I thought that a song based on a novel about her would end up being really vague. At first, I had these ideas for concepts that I thought would be interesting, but ultimately I decided to make a powerful, straightforward song that reflected my image of Gundam.” That’s why we talked about making a song that you could interpret in different ways as the story progressed. “I’m not all that young myself, so I thought if I merely tried to match the story’s sensibilities to those of young people, I’d end up missing the mark. However, I wanted to create a great song that would live up to those high expectations. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, the first Gundam animated TV series in roughly seven years, has just drawn to a close. “I wanted to create something that was true to Gundam.

Suletta ends the fight with a giant laser shot from her Aerial Gundam, basically scaring off the terrorist group with some intimidation help from the Witch ...

Miorine is carting her dad out on a space stretcher, but then she’s accosted by a Dawn of Fold terrorist who happens to be wandering in the area. Suletta, after getting that “pep talk” from her mom about extreme measures, manages to recover her Aerial suit and deal with the other two Gundam pilots -Sophie and Norea, with the former being a Witch of Earth- rather easily I might add. Meanwhile, Guel/Bob (the prominent male jerk of the series) escapes his captors and steals a Dawn of Fold mobile suit, only to be attacked by his own dad in his own Dilanza. The group and Suletta are in a race to see who can reach Gundam Aerial first. Earth engineer Nika manages to signal her Earth House comrades in time to not blow up the area she’s in, but she got caught by House member Martin. Fans who were afraid of Gundam: The Witch From Mercury turning into a high-school-type shonen tale but with mechas and space need not worry anymore.

A reminder that much of the cast are still children, and only have so much power in these situations. "Gundam" has its own history of disappointing follow-ups, including "Seed Destiny" and the second season of "Gundam 00." Watching Guel be tortured by his best intentions is the real Shakespeare in "Witch From Mercury." "The Witch From Mercury" is not subtle. Series scriptwriter Ichiro Okouchi has a track record of second-season car crashes, from the outrageous When Suletta crushes a man to death in the after-credits stinger of this episode, she feels no remorse because she has been taught not to. Running away is good (by saving the lives of your enemies) but saving your friends (by murdering your enemies) is even better. She's been trained to be a loaded gun since birth, but at this time lacks the self-awareness to question what she's been taught or the willingness to rebel. Caught in the Dawn of Fold attack by chance, he grabs a robot and rushes to Plant Quetta to keep Suletta safe. It is preposterous that the first enemy robot Guel would encounter en route to Plant Quetta would be his dad. Guel's tragedy in this episode is "Witch of Mercury" in miniature. Suletta is encouraged by her mother to murder a terrorist in cold blood and does so with a smile on her face.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury ‒ SEASON FINALE (Anime News Network)

We all knew a dark twist was coming at the end of episode 12, but how many of you predicted that Suletta and Miorine's relationship would take that turn?

[mecha](/encyclopedia/lexicon.php?id=100) animation. Episodes like these make me glad that [Sunrise](/encyclopedia/company.php?id=34) is still dedicated to 2D mecha animation. It's a good thing that the post-credits scene lands as hard as it does, because the story leading up to it was admittedly a little messy in the delivery. The scene is a deliberate callback to the Prologue episode, where Eri slaughtered her foes without awareness of what she was doing. This episode had a level of insanity that even made the infamous twist in We all knew a dark twist was coming at the end of episode 12, but how many of you predicted that Suletta and Miorine's relationship would take that turn?
