Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania Review (GameSpot)

Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania is a forgettable movie that even a stellar performance from Jonathan Majors as Kang can't save.

But it definitely isn't a good one, and certainly not what Marvel needed to jumpstart a new phase in the MCU and give it a North Star to move towards. The previous movie was completely incoherent and full of plot holes, but it was still an extremely entertaining ride that worked as a comedy. Even just that setup, which happens within minutes of the movie starting, is emblematic of how slapdash the MCU has become. But Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania is the start of a new day. And maybe that version of the movie exists on some other version of Earth. Rather, it's the kind of movie you'll completely forget within a couple of days because there's nothing really worth remembering.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania movie review (2023) | Roger ... (Roger Ebert)

Ant-Man and family return to the quantum realm to battle a new villain.

Sometimes the movie overdoes the self-awareness in that unfortunate MCU way—such as by having a character confirm that a weird thing just happened by saying, "That was weird," or announce that another character is cool, both of which happen here. One element that does intrigue: Kang seems deeply, furiously sad, in a way that echoes one of the most powerful lines from "The Sopranos," "Depression is anger turned inward." [Avengers: Infinity War](/reviews/avengers-infinity-war-2018)" or the middle hour of " [Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom](/reviews/indiana-jones-and-the-temple-of-doom-1984)." The filmmakers need him to be a fearsome and all-powerful villain (he's essentially Thanos in a new wrapper: a genocidal madman) and to be introduced in this movie so that he could quickly be positioned as the Big Bad for the next Avengers team-up. There's not much for a cinematographer (or director—even [Ryan Coogler](/cast-and-crew/ryan-coogler) has seemed tamped down by Marvel) to do to show individual personality on these projects when so much of the running time is pre-visualized by effects companies; and when Marvel studios boss [Kevin Feige](/cast-and-crew/kevin-feige), who seems determined to keep art to a minimum for fear of gumming up the content machine, wields an aesthetic veto pen. The result is simultaneously the biggest and smallest of the Ant-Man films, a neat trick.

How Many End Credits Scenes Does 'Ant-Man and The Wasp ... (Collider.com)

Before watching Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, find out how many end credits scenes the movie has and if they are essential for the MCU.

So, if you care at all for the intertwined story of the MCU as a whole, you must stick around to the very end of the second Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania end credits scene. So, are the two end-credit scenes of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania important, or can you skip them? [first movie in the MCU’s Phase 5](https://collider.com/marvel-studios-release-dates-2023-2026/), which will amp up the stakes after Phase 4 only strolled around the MCU introducing new characters and Variants. After the mind-boggling ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, fans who decide to stick around for the credits will get exactly two post-credit scenes. [Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania](https://collider.com/tag/ant-man-3/) is finally coming to theaters to introduce the world to Kang the Conqueror ( [Jonathan Majors](https://collider.com/ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-poster-jonathan-majors/)), the villain who’ll torment the Marvel Cinematic Universe until the next big crossover event, appropriately titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. That tracks with previous Scott Lang adventures, as both 2015’s Ant-Man and 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp have two end-credit scenes each.

3,” “The Marvels,” “Captain America: New World Order,” “Thunderbolts” and “Blade.” Yet, the movie only kind of fulfills that responsibility, according to Fear isn’t the only critic who left “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” with mixed feelings; the film holds a 60% average on Rotten Tomatoes. “You hang on his every word; he makes vengeance and genocide sound like the most hypnotically casual of propositions.” Based on domestic box office estimates, the newest “Ant-Man” is buzzing below recent Marvel titles such as “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” ($185 million), “Thor: Love and Thunder” ($144 million) and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” ($181 million). Encouragingly, it’s getting a huge jump on its predecessors, 2015’s “Ant-Man” ($57 million) and 2018’s sequel “Ant-Man and the Wasp” ($76 million domestically and $161 million globally). China, where “Quantumania” is projected to bring in $35 million to $55 million, will be key in the final weekend tally.

Marvel's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania review: Too big, too ... (Polygon)

The Marvel Cinematic Universe kicks off a new phase with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania — starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, ...

Unfortunately, his grandiosity and the need to establish him as dangerous enough to carry two entire Marvel Phases pretty much nixes the Ant-Man franchise’s brand of [back-and-forth comedy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HphZucD_cuM). Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has virtually none of this kind of toying with scale. But the real drawback of sending Ant-Man to a fantasy environment is that — as we have known since Honey, I Shrunk the Kids — the appeal of shrinking hijinks lies in seeing familiar things from a new perspective. (The latter aged to teenagehood while he was stuck beyond time and Hope, Hank, and Janet were all Blipped out of existence due to the events of [Avengers: Infinity War](https://www.polygon.com/2018/4/24/17274024/avengers-infinity-war-review-marvel-movie-mcu) and [Endgame](https://www.polygon.com/2019/4/26/18518115/avengers-endgame-spoiler-easter-egg-credit-guide-box-office).) Scott is sad that he missed so much of Cassie’s childhood, but otherwise, his life is great. Reed takes pains to make everything in Quantumania’s Quantum Realm as unfamiliar as possible, packing the screen with all-CGI characters, impossible vistas, and digital creatures. The third movie in the Ant-Man subseries, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is also the first step in a three-year saga. [Ant-Man and the Wasp](https://www.polygon.com/2018/6/27/17508562/ant-man-and-the-wasp-review-paul-rudd-evangeline-lilly); and his daughter, Cassie (Kathryn Newton). The Quantum Realm needs some people, because if Kang is a conqueror, he needs some people to conquer. The Quantum Realm should be the star of Quantumania. Scott has finally been reunited with his girlfriend, kick-butt tech CEO Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly); her parents, Hank (Douglas) and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), the latter of whom was rescued from the Quantum Realm in 2018’s And in this fight between Ant-Man and Kang the Conqueror, we’re all losing. The previous franchise installment, just a few months earlier, was Joss Whedon’s heady Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the idea that Marvel would follow up with a movie about the guy who talks to ants seemed too bizarre to be corporate.

Michael Peña's Best Roles to Check Out Before 'Ant-Man & the ... (Collider.com)

From Crash to Narcos: Mexico, these are the best projects to watch Michael Peña in before Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania.

[Fury](https://collider.com/tag/fury/) with his role as “Gordo,” the driver for a Sherman E8 tank in the most violent days of World War II. [American Hustle](https://collider.com/tag/american-hustle/), Peña has a particularly amusing role as the FBI agent Paco Hernandez, who is assigned to assist in Richie DiMaso’s (Bradley Cooper) plan by posing as Sheikh Abdullah. The best friend of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) shows a great perspective on the universe from the point-of-view of a working class hustler, whose life is only occasionally interrupted by the larger events. He stars as Miguel, a peaceful Mexican farmer who is falsely detained for the murder of the rancher Olivia McNary (Amy Madigan), and must sit in prison as his wife Paulina (Eva Longoria) is subjected to abuse. [End of Watch](https://collider.com/tag/end-of-watch/) is one of the best examples of how the “found footage” genre can be used for non-horror projects. Michael Peña has been acting since the late 1990s, but he first got his breakout roles in the Best Picture winner Million Dollar Baby (and has since become a favorite of director Clint Eastwood) and his role as Detective Armando Renta on The Shield.

'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania' review: A big film for ... (The Star Online)

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania. Director: Peyton Reed. Cast: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, ...

Kang may be the big reveal here, but Quantumania will make you want to look out for more of the little guys. You truly believe this could be the next Thanos-level villain, and he will leave you wanting to see more of Kang. Rudd’s Scott Lang has always felt like a regular guy PRETENDING to be a superhero rather than actually being one, but that’s what makes him so likeable as a hero in the first place. Still, the combination of the warm Lang/Van Dyne family dynamic, Kang’s overwhelming presence and this fantastical sci-fi setting sets Quantumania apart from many other MCU movies, especially the ones in the previous Phase Four. His foes were more down to earth ones, his adventures never really endangered the safety of the planet or threatened to tear apart the fabric of space and time. There, they discover a whole new world that exists outside of space and time, and ruled by the fearsome Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania Kicks Off MCU Phase 5 By ... (The Rakyat Post)

The third Ant-Man film pits Scott Lang and his family against Kang the Conqueror, set to be the Big Bad in Phase 5.

In the third Ant-Man movie, Scott Lang and his family get sucked into the Quantum Realm after an experiment goes wrong. I enjoyed discovering the Quantum Realm and thought the visual artists did it well. It’s true to Scott Lang’s character and personality. Overall, it was an enjoyable movie to watch so it’s a yes from me. Kathryn Newton plays the older Cassie Lang in this instalment. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has received a 'Rotten' score on Rotten Tomatoes.

[Empire](https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania/) Who better understands the benefits, after all, of keeping it small?" "Marvel, with all their resources, have made a film set in a universe where time and space are not as we know them, yet have ended up with something that looks surreal, but feels shackled. [Entertainment Weekly](https://ew.com/movies/movie-reviews/ant-man-and-the-wasp-quantumania-review/) But that doesn’t mean it’s not fun." "At this point in history, the idea of attracting new fans to the MCU is probably moot; most viewers are either on board for this ongoing saga, or they checked out long ago. [Wakanda Forever](https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a41885369/black-panther-wakanda-forever-review/) or [Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness](https://www.digitalspy.com/movies/a39839375/doctor-strange-2-review-multiverse-of-madness/), but it does take the wildly disparate tones and plot threads that are seemingly endemic to this series and turn them into an entertainingly cohesive whole. Too bad that, for all its amusing jokes, the world onscreen mostly looks like a Marvel screen-saver." Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania review | Who is Kang The ... (whynow)

But the Quantum Realm, the dangerous realm from where the gang rescued Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), still poses a significant threat, especially after ...

Newton is a smart casting choice and we can only assume Cassie, who has her own superhero suit already, will be a huge part of the MCU in the future. At least Quantumania has one of the best casts in a Marvel film. Visually, the film is messy and flat; the CGI is shockingly poor and the action looks muddled. In Quantumania, by making it a place where laws of physics seem to apply and where several different tribes live, it just feels pretty safe. The Quantum Realm has always been presented to us as a hugely dangerous, abstract space that should be avoided at all costs and that no life could exist there. It officially kickstarts Marvel’s Phase V of films and gives us its next big bad: Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror.
