The Strokes, The 1975, The Kid LAROI, Porter Robinson, Sabrina Carpenter and more have been announced for Good Vibes Festival this July.

Held at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach in Selangor, the event was the second large-scale festival to be announced in Malaysia since the lifting of social distancing and public health measures implemented in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic in May last year. When technical difficulties caused The Strokes to put their concert on hold, the boys broke into a humorous improvised song to kill time.

The band’s planned 2019 tour was subject to technical issues, rain-outs, and eventually, full-on cancellation as the world came to a stop. The band were set to release the LP and tour behind when they hit a snag: the Covid-19 pandemic. The band’s last album before taking a lengthy hiatus, 2013’s Comedown Machine, was a highly electronic effort that was supported by no tour, no interviews, and no plans for the immediate future.

The main headliners for this year festival includes famous American rock band The Strokes as well as English pop rock band The 1975, who are returning to the festival for the second time after performing there back in 2016. “To celebrate and show our gratitude to everyone who’s been part of this journey with us in the past decade, we’ll be expanding the festival to a whopping three days, stacked with our biggest lineup to date,” he said. After having their last full edition concert in 2019 and with just an offshoot concert last year through Good Vibes: The Weekender — the festival is returning for a three-day showcase from July 21 until July 23.
