Yorkshire Dales body: Police unable to speak with Thai woman's ... (BBC News)

North Yorkshire Police officers have been in Thailand talking to the woman's family.

It was established she had moved to the UK in 1991 with Mr Armitage after they were married in Thailand and they had been living in northern England before her death. A cold case review was started in 2016 and scientific advances meant police were able to piece together a more detailed picture of who she was and came to the conclusion she had been killed. Adam Harland, manager of the major investigation team's cold case review unit, said it was "unfortunate" that they had not been able to "seek the views of the whole family around Lamduan's remains". Police who travelled to Thailand to speak with the family of a woman found dead in the Yorkshire Dales have been unable to meet with her husband. Local people paid for her burial in the churchyard in Horton-in-Ribblesdale and she became known as The Lady of the Hills. Before they flew out to Thailand on 15 February, North Yorkshire Police said they could not move the case forward without "understanding from Lamduan's family all the aspects about her life and particularly the last few months of her life".

Undercover police inquiry: Dad died without knowing the truth (BBC News)

The Undercover Policing Inquiry heard evidence again this week - but it's still years away from ending.

It could still become the UK's longest public inquiry - and one of the most expensive. Whatever the chairman does conclude about the first tranche of evidence, the entire inquiry won't conclude before 2026. Charlotte Kilroy KC, the barrister speaking for many of the women, told the inquiry there was not a single law that could justify what had been done. "No one appears to have considered whether the level of intrusion occasioned by SDS long-term undercover police deployments was justified," added Mr Barr. All of this activity, she argued, was underpinned by a culture of misogyny that Scotland Yard knew about from both experience and a damning report commissioned in 1983. "No amount of money would have brought back those years anyway." But it is still nowhere near finished - and victims are starting to die without finding the truth. And then the most extraordinary scandal revealed why. He was telling people to stop work." "Even in his dying days, he was hallucinating that the curtain rails around the bed were loose scaffolding. He always believed that there were undercover police involved. Except it wasn't a site strewn with bricks and other hazards.
