Greenfield misses initial $4m payment in Port agreement (The Lens)

[entered into a contract](https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/23315767-gc-permit), in which D Hayes would excavate and remove over 8.6 million cubic yards of clay from the tract of land on which Greenfield plans to construct its grain elevator. Greenfield also agreed to pay the port $300,000 in administrative fees for each of the first five years of the agreement, and $200,000 for each subsequent year. In his email to the commissioners, Matthews, with the port, suggested that if the port were to defer the agreement’s start date, then it would capitalize on its leverage to negotiate significantly higher PILOT dues and administrative fees. Under those terms, instead of collecting nearly $7 million in administrative fees, the port would have been set to collect $51 million. “The taxing bodies and Port will continue to receive payments spelled out in the PILOT with this amendment. “Given that construction has not yet commenced while permitting continues, the Port determined that modifying the schedule to reflect an amended timeline was the appropriate course of action. The company plans to build a large grain elevator on the property, worth more than $400 million, that would include more than 50 grain silos, a conveyor belt, railroad infrastructure and a dock. In his email, Matthews advised the port’s commissioners that he would like to discuss the matter with them individually, and that the matter didn’t need to be resolved at the port’s December meeting because Greenfield would not default on the initial PILOT, and an additional $300,000 administrative fee the port was set to receive, until March. ](https://thelensnola.org/2022/06/06/judge-allows-pre-construction-activity-for-400-million-grain-elevator-in-historic-majority-black-part-of-st-john-parish/)Additionally, the Banner sisters are [engaged in the Army Corps of Engineers’ review of the project](https://thelensnola.org/2022/11/17/whitney-plantation-executive-alleges-greenfield-consultant-accessed-restricted-property-for-viewshed-analysis-work/), which is taking place under the purview of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Risks of Not Offering Local Payments (pymnts.com)

Spreedly's Andy McHale and PPRO's Adrian Burgess discuss the challenges and solutions of local payment requirements and how payments orchestration can help.

The other part that the orchestration platform can play is simplifying and consolidating data settlement and reconciliation.” Having a third party handle disputes and other local payment complications allows merchants to operate confidently in any region, knowing they can readily provide the payment options their customers will demand. “A lot of these alternative payment methods have different levels of consumer protection rights,” he said. There is a remarkable array of local and alternative payment methods around the world, each of which is some customer’s favorite, said McHale. Preferred payment methods are as diverse as the regions themselves. “But that doesn’t work for every individual, every ecosystem, every region on the planet.

Accelerate Revenue for Your APAC Business Through Payments ... (Fintech News Singapore)

Consumers in Asia Pacific (APAC) are by far the most enthusiastic adopters of digital payments worldwide.

Working with a local acquirer can minimize additional costs for both the merchant and the consumer. In addition, consumers could be charged a foreign transaction fee (between 1%-3% of the purchase value) when they use their card abroad or pay for something online from a foreign merchant. Whether merchants have an existing customer base in APAC or are looking to expand into this rapidly growing center for e-commerce and digital payments, the benefits of working with a platform that offers local acquiring could be a gamechanger for online businesses. Despite other alternative payment methods growing in popularity across the region, it’s clear that on and offline payments in APAC are still driven by credit and debit cards, with major card schemes including VISA, Mastercard, CUP and JCB. Card payments remain most popular in the region and APAC dominated the global card payments market last year with a 57.8% share of international card payments by value. Consumers in Asia Pacific (APAC) are by far the most enthusiastic adopters of digital payments worldwide, increasing their use of at least one digital payment method in the last 12 months by 69%.

The Debt Panel: 'Can banks reverse late payment penalty charges?' (The National)

The Dubai reader is seeking advice after missing a credit card instalment for the first time.

Check with the bank on how it calculated your interest charges. They may ask you to provide some supporting documents, such as proof of payment, to verify your claim. Sending a message via your online card portal will probably result in your request being politely refused — these bank employees may have little authority to bend the rules. This can affect future requests for loans and credit cards. In summary, contact your bank to request a reversal of the late payment penalty and finance charges, and consider setting up payment reminders and reviewing your statements regularly to avoid similar issues in the future. However, disputes can take time to resolve, so to save on interest charges and more complications, you can pay your card in full and then you will receive a refund once the claim is processed. Given that you say you have a faultless track record, you can ask the bank if they will waive the penalties but you will need to speak to senior staff, who have the ability to make these kinds of decisions. It is unfortunate that you missed the payment date as the bank is within its rights to charge you a penalty for late payment. The details of this will be in the terms and conditions of the credit agreement you signed when you applied for the card. Your statement is sent to you well before the balance for that month is due, so you will always have time to check every item on your card statement. You don’t have to pay any interest on a purchase made on January 2 until February 15, as long as you pay off that purchase in full by the 15th. There are terms and conditions, and then there is the flexibility of the bank to keep a long-standing customer happy.
