Portland Trail Blazers vs. Golden State Warriors Preview (Blazer's Edge)

The Blazers have a key opportunity to move up in the Western Conference standings tonight. Can they take advantage?

He seems to move and get to the right spots when he’s out there. Lillard’s offensive masterclass has led Portland to the second-best offensive rating in the NBA during February, but Portland also showcases the second-worst defensive rating during that stretch. After dealing with an injury at the start of the season and then playing shaky upon his return, Watford’s spot in the rotation was fragile for months. One of the more interesting developments during the second half of the season has been second-year pro Trendon Watford’s emergence in the rotation. Baldwin, in limited minutes, is currently shooting 46.8 percent from 3-point distance on the season. But everybody is catching on to what Blazers fans already know: Lillard has been must-see TV all season, but especially in the past month. 6, but Klay Thompson has been lighting it up from deep in his absence and Draymond Green — who missed the last two games — is probable to play tonight. Going bananas on the scoreboard is great fun and all, but nobody will believe the Blazers are turning a corner until they shape up (even just a little) on defense. Starting tonight, the 11th place Blazers play back-to-back home games against teams directly ahead of them in Play-In position: the Golden State Warriors and [New Orleans Pelicans](https://www.thebirdwrites.com). Golden State has won its last two games and stand 5-6 in February, a stretch that included a 125-122 loss to Portland on Feb. [Golden State Warriors](https://www.goldenstateofmind.com) (31-30) vs. Tonight’s challenger, the seventh-place Warriors, stand just 1.5 games ahead of Portland in the standings.

All season long, the Warriors have been a tough out on their home floor and they most likely still will be later tonight. While another performance like this in these areas will certainly increase the chances of Golden State covering, the Warriors have a lethal sharpshooter among their own in Klay Thompson. Even with the likes of Stephen Curry continuing to sit out due to a lower-leg ailment, Portland has to make it a priority to be firmer in their defensive game plan. After trailing for a majority of their previous contest with the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Warriors hit some clutch shots late and were led by the outstanding play of Klay Thompson to ultimately prevail by a score of 109-104. Coming off of back-to-back wins against western conference foes after losing two straight to the LA teams, it appears that the Warriors are on the right track moving forward. One of the great scorers and shooters of his generation, does Lillard have enough gas in the tank to will his team to a crucial road win?

Fortunately, they should have defensive ace Draymond Green available to them as he is listed as probable for tonight’s game despite missing the last two with a knee contusion. Lillard showed off the entire offensive repertoire highlighted by a skill all too familiar to the Bay Area: an unlimited range from deep which resulted in 13-made three pointers. Although still not at full strength, Golden State has been able to find ways to win in recent games. The game will be played at 7:00 PM PT in San Francisco and can be watched on NBC Sports Bay Area. The Warriors are hoping to extend their current win streak following consecutive victories to begin this five-game homestand.
