As mentioned above, there are eight treasures to grab from inside locked drawers using Small Keys. Before you do that, move to the right side of the train to find a briefcase with the key inside. It’s on your way to the knights’ encounter, so if you miss it, just enter the room again afterward. Location: After you go through the Bindery puzzle, you’ll end up in an L-shaped corridor. Once up there, grab the key from the western side, on top of a carriage. Location: As you’re following the main path, you’ll end up inside the Village Chief’s Manor. There is a total of eight Small Keys to gather in the Resident Evil 4 remake, spanning the first two regions. Some are [locked behind puzzles](https://www.polygon.com/e/23413230), but others require Small Keys in order to retrieve them. If you start a new game plus save after finishing the game once, you’ll have to pick up all treasures again, so you can restart your search then. [Resident Evil 4](https://www.polygon.com/game/resident-evil-4/1017) remake has no shortage of treasures to hunt in each of its three main regions. You can open them in any order, and there isn’t a specific key for a specific drawer. If you’re curious about what each locked drawer has trapped inside, you can find each reward and its worth in the last section.

The Resident Evil 4 remake might seem like a graphical overhaul, but it introduces a ton of changes that weren't present in the original.
Every time you grab an object in the original, the action is interrupted with a screen that showcases what you just got. If you were disappointed in the way she was treated in the original, the remake may provide a pleasant surprise. If you weren’t a fan of the Water Hall section in the castle, you’re not alone. It may take a bit of time and practice to learn exactly in which instances you can use it, but there are plenty of them. There are 16 of them scattered throughout the game’s chapters, and finding them all will reward you with a new knife. A substantial and interesting change in the use of Leon’s knife is that he can now parry attacks with it. The action is useful for many things, and it can be quite satisfying to pull in the heat of battle. You’re now taking down pirate cardboards and avoiding sailors as opposed to villagers, there are specific challenges to tackle, and the rewards vary quite a bit. There is an exception, however, related to the vases that replace crates and barrels in the castle area. That said, some difficulty options, such as Professional mode, get rid of the option completely — in case you want an experience more akin to the original in this regard. The fidelity is much higher in everything that surrounds you in-game, so having a bright and distinct color to highlight objects in the backgrounds is quite useful. [Resident Evil 4](https://www.polygon.com/game/resident-evil-4/1017) is the latest modern classic to undergo a remake treatment.

The Resident Evil 4 remake has many changes from the original game, and one focuses on the popular NPC, the mysterious Merchant.

However, that requires some speed, and if you don't have time to do that, shoot the projectile. In the case of Molotov cocktails and dynamite, doing this can ...
If you upgrade a weapon and then sell it to the Merchant, they will give you money for the weapon and for the upgrades you put into it. Because of this, you should upgrade whatever weapons you want freely, and when you're ready to part ways with a weapon, you'll get the money you spent on an upgrade back. For example, if you have a tiara with four jewel slots, aim to embed four of the same color jewel into these slots to maximize the selling price. You can place jewels in these slots to increase the selling price (to the Merchant) for these items with a special boost. Of course, in a pinch, sell a jewel or two, but ideally, hold onto them until you can embed them into a treasure for that special bonus. This is hard to pull off when fighting multiple enemies, but if you’ve got the jump on a few and want to take one out quickly, give this reticle zoom tactic a try. Also, if you see a pirate cutout with a silver skull token on it, aim directly for the token for a 300-point bonus. We recommend learning the timing of this parry as soon as possible, and you should practice learning this parry timing on the game’s earlier enemies. But with the Upgrade Ticket, you can get that exclusive upgrade early, giving you, for example, a 1.5x power boost to your pistol or shotgun. Head inside, and it takes you to the shooting range. You’ll want to avoid getting hit by these projectiles (you can parry the axes!), and one way to do that is to kill the enemy before they throw them. However, that requires some speed, and if you don’t have time to do that, shoot the projectile.
While Capcom's remake of its classic survival horror game is mostly faithful, some stuff was cut.

Also—and this is a minor thing but one which I’ll definitely miss—the cool laser room section is gone now, too. In the process, the pair get mixed up in a whole bunch of campy, horrific action. (I hate this theory and believe Capcom just didn’t want to punish players who made the mistake of killing the merchant once for the rest of the game.) More changes in the new Resident Evil 4 remake

Although it includes bad news for Leon's hair, our guide to Resident Evil 4's PC performance wiill show you which are the best settings for smooth running.
Granted, the FPS gain is minor – my PC went from 44fps to 46fps on this setting – but the absolute most I got, from the Low setting, was 47fps. The difference between Many and Few is a mere 1fps in the latter’s favour, so to paraphrase a former Prime Minister: let them pile high. SSR is worth leaving on, assuming you don’t go the RT route – there’s a lot of water in the early chapters especially, and I only got an extra 2fps by disabling it. Corpse Physics: Again, there’s only a 1fps difference between the High and Low settings here. Switching from Normal to Interlaced rendering improved performance by 25%, but also introduced visual artefacts (like jagged lines on straight edges, even with maxed-out anti-aliasing) and a shimmering effect on thin foliage. And even then, it’s never close to unplayable, with even the Steam Deck able to run it around the 40fps mark on low settings. Our starting point is 44fps: the GTX 1070’s average result on the equivalent of the Max preset, except with screen space reflections enabled instead of ray tracing. My RTX 3070 averaged 93fps at 1440p using Prioritize Graphics, and moving up one step to the Ray Tracing preset only cut this to 86fps. Resident Evil 4’s best settings therefore lie in a combination of custom tweaks, and I’ve tested every single option to find which you should crank up and which you should tone down. If you can live with the upscaled look at 1080p, it is indeed a good match for the minimum spec’s GTX 1050 Ti. There’s no DLSS, so you don’t specifically need an Nvidia RTX graphics card to use the best available upscaler, though be aware of the graphics presets’ first quirk: choosing the lowest and fastest, Prioritize Performance, will force FSR 2 to its Performance setting by default. The graphics presets also have some oddities to them, though fear not, as it’s best to go with a custom settings config anyway.

While it seems as though it will appeal to those looking for a dose of nostalgia, Capcom has a knack for truly modernizing the titles in its influential survival horror series. While some of them feel unnecessary or don't quite hit the mark, there are more than a few that do the original source material proud, and the RE name is just one example of this.

Capcom announces free DLC for the Resident Evil 4 remake, giving fans of the survival horror game something more to look forward to.
[fan-favorite mode is indeed returning in the Resident Evil 4 remake](https://gamerant.com/resident-evil-4-remake-mercenaries-demo/), the game's March 24 launch trailer revealed this comeback will be happening sooner than expected, as it ended with an announcement that the feature will be added as free DLC on April 7. In the original Resident Evil 4 from 2005, The Mercenaries mode was initially exclusive to the PS2 port, which released some nine months after the GameCube version of the game, depending on the region. Resident Evil 4 will be getting a free piece of DLC in the form of The Mercenaries update, Capcom has announced.
Resident Evil 4 is one of the most influential video games in the history of the medium - so how does the 2023 remake hold up?
The only criticism I would make - and something that has been bothering me for a while - is the lack of an aiming sight. The performance and image quality just isn't on the level of other recent RE Engine games, while the visuals themselves do not push any new boundaries. [Resident Evil 4 HD Project](https://www.re4hd.com/?page_id=9303) - a stunning achievement that goes over the entire original game with a fine-toothed comb. What's most important is that it doesn't sully its legacy - this is a very good remake and one that they could have easily botched. For example, you can now move and shoot - a touchy subject, given how critical not moving and shooting is to the pacing of the original - but the balance has been shifted to support this, making enemies even more aggressive. I'd say they succeeded in that aim - the environments still manage to channel the original game but the actual level layouts and world structure have changed significantly. The fourth numbered entry in the series had been years in the making and was designed to take full advantage of the GameCube's hardware. That polish is evident to an extent, but the game also launches with a handful of issues which detract from the otherwise gorgeous presentation. The evolution of the game's environments is perhaps even more interesting. Looking to the game's core design though, Capcom opted to not just to recreate the original experience, but expand it - and that deserves both celebration and scrutiny. Resident Evil 4 is one of the most influential video games in the history of the medium, a game that perfectly balances tense third-person gunplay, varied set pieces and impeccable pacing to deliver something truly unique at the time of its release. Having shipped so many titles across current and last generation machines, however, you'd expect a certain level of polish with their latest offering, especially given the sublime Resident Evil Village.

The Resident Evil 4 remake requests will have you finding blue medallions and other secrets. Here's how to complete all 19 side missions and the rewards.
As soon as you’re on the surface, aim at the southern side of the map to find the medallion hanging from a fuel tank in the distance. The trick with this one is that, if you fail to hit one of its weak points, it’s going to automatically counterattack with a flurry of spikes. The third blue medallion is on your way to the main staircase, as you’re traversing the containers and fighting with the enemies there. The third blue medallion is on the upper floor of the Grand Hall, hanging from the chandelier. The third batch of blue medallions is in the Castle Gate area where you need to use the cannon. If you’re looking at the map, it’s inside the destroyed shrine-looking structure that is next to the southern ledge of the castle. Once you return to the main path towards the village, you’ll see a large dog on the other side of the gate. The fifth blue medallion is underneath the boardwalk up north of the Fish Farm. The second batch of blue medallions is in both the Quarry and Fish Farm areas as you’re tasked to cross the lake. There is a total of 19 requests to take care of throughout the course of the story. The first batch of blue medallions is in the farm area as you’re heading towards the lake. The merchant has plenty of new tricks up his sleeve, and one of them includes a series of side activities corresponding to each of the three main regions you traverse through.

Wesker gives a supervillainous speech that the amber will lead to the loss of billions of lives. It's not until the post-credits scene that Wesker shows his face in RE4 Remake. The survival horror game has a darker and moodier tone than the original, which was released back in 2005.

Take a left and smash the barrel at the foot of the stairs for handgun ammo. Head back the other way and through the sun door. Turn around and head back the way you came to find a small room. As soon as you can, sprint to the shield ahead of you and to the left — it’ll protect you from the giant’s projectiles. Get behind the wall for protection from the giant, and the deal with the zealot — and the second one coming up behind you. Climb onto the platform on your left and deal with the two zealots a little farther to the right. In the room at the top of the stairs, smash the barrel for some rifle ammo. Deal with the zealots and spiders, and follow the hall to the far side for a barrel with a green herb. Deal with the zealot and a second spider up top, and then smash the barrels for resources (S) and pesetas. In the next room, unlock the door on the right to open a shortcut back the way you came. When you’re done, head to the west side of the room — over by where the priest started — and open the chest for a Mirror with Pearls and Rubies. There’s a vase with pesetas to the left of the door.

If you want to make your way through the Village Chief's Manor in Resident Evil 4 Remake, you'll need to open the lock. Here's how.
As you can see from the image above, there are clues as to the three symbols that need to be used to open the lock. Nothing says “victory lap” quite like getting to steamroll evil cultists and parasitized minions with a rocket launcher that never runs dry.
Finally, you can unlock Unlimited Ammo for most weapons in the game by purchasing the Cat Ears accessory. In the original Resident Evil 4, the Chicago Sweeper goes by the name Chicago Typewriter. This process will run you 660,000 pesetas, but as with the Handcannon, you can buy an upgrade ticket for 30 spinels, which lets you unlock infinite ammo without the other upgrades. As before, you need to unlock all of the Chicago Sweeper’s upgrades at the Merchant before you can purchase its ultimate enhancement (i.e., the infinite ammo cheat). However, if you thought the path to the Handcannon was difficult, you ain’t seen nothing yet. You still have to upgrade the weapon to max out its ammo capacity, but doing so runs you 790,000 pesetas instead of 540,000 pesetas. In that game, you had to master the All of the mods, including infinite ammo, will run you 540,000 pesetas in total, but you can skip straight to the infinite ammo by purchasing an upgrade ticket for 30 spinels. The Handcannon itself is locked behind the challenging Professional difficulty, and you can only unlock that mode by finishing Resident Evil 4 Remake once. Comparatively speaking, the Infinite Rocket Launcher is the easiest infinite weapon to obtain. In truth, only three weapons in the game have infinite ammo: the Infinite Rocket Launcher, Infinite Handcannon, and Infinite Chicago Typewriter. The strongest weapons and upgrades usually hide behind stringent completion requirements, and the Resident Evil 4 Remake is no different.
If players rely too heavily on Leon's Combat Knife in Resident Evil 4 Remake, it will break. Thankfully, there is a way to repair it.
To repair the Combat Knife, Leon will need to spend 4,000 Pesetas, and though this seems a little expensive, it's worth it in the long run. Unlike most NPCs in Resident Evil 4 Remake, the Merchant is much friendlier and will allow Leon to browse his wares and purchase whatever he has in stock. If it breaks and the player is struggling to get by without it, they can also alter This also means that he will not be able to use the knife to stealthily kill his targets or deflect incoming blows, which can make certain encounters much more challenging than they need to be. Sadly, [the Combat Knife will break](https://gamerant.com/resident-evil-4-remake-knife-changes-gameplay-trailer-durability-one-hit-kill-parry/) if the player uses it too much, but there is a way to repair it. Both weapons come with downsides; however, the pistol's ammo is limited, and the Combat Knife has a durability meter.
Resident Evil 4 is a good remake of an exceptional game, and brings RE4 in line with Capcom's recent entries without retaining what made it unique.
- Resident Evil 4 Remake is a reimagining of the original classic released on the Nintendo GameCube in 2005. It's also not as silly, not as unique, and not as necessary as the original. It feels three times as large as the Resident Evil 3 remake, and is absolutely deserving of praise. Inventory management was one of the best features of Resident Evil 4. Capcom delivered a masterpiece with the Some of it is there - the "Hey, it's that dog!" but instead of replicating these scenes, or replacing them with even more over-the-top setpieces, the Resident Evil 4 remake adds fetch quests. The original Resident Evil 4 included one section where players could pick up enemies and drop them into a bottomless pit via a crane-like machine not unlike the ones used to cheat children out of quarters. Both of them are much more relevant to the story here in the RE4 remake, which is nice to see. Three years ago at the beginning of my Resident Evil 3 review I was rather harsh on Capcom's approach to remaking every single title in their catalog, and cited Resident Evil 4 as the pinnacle each of these new releases hoped to recapture. It's also easily available, making the whole idea of a remake unnecessary in the first place. Originally marketed as a GameCube exclusive, not long after launch it was announced RE4 would also release on the PS2 in October of the same year.
We've got everything you need to know about the Merchant's target practice minigame in Resident Evil 4 Remake!
When a row of sailors appears at the back, switch to the rifle and pick off the pirates as they move between the sailors. Aim to land the mines on the targets themselves, rather than their path - this ensures that they'll detonate and catch at least one pirate in the blast! Take it easy at first, carefully aiming to hit the Skulls that appear on lone pirates. In the bonus round, wait for the area to be full of targets then shoot the dynamite to hit as many as possible. The bonus round requires that you destroy all targets with ten rounds or fewer, meaning you can't afford to miss once if you want to get a perfect score. Aim for the middle of the loose groups of three targets to catch them all with your shotgun's scatter. After the center row of three barrel pirates, switch to the shotgun and blast the groups of targets that appear. Use headshots if you can to quickly take out the pirates protected by barrels, except for the third one; he's got a Skull hidden on his chest. This will give you a much better angle to hit the third Skull and the pirates behind the row of sailors. The first section requires you to carefully aim through the scope to hit Skulls and pirates peeking their heads out from barrels. If you successfully hit all the pirates (twenty-seven in total), the bonus round will trigger. When the final group of pirates appears (moving clockwise), don't try to shoot them all - you'll run out of bullets.

Players hoping to revisit previous chapters in Resident Evil 4 Remake will have a total of twenty save slots to choose from. Even though this seems like a slight limitation, players can take comfort in knowing that, if Leon dies, they will be able to resume playing from their most recent autosave if they choose to continue. The beginning of the game tasks players with defeating infected townsfolk and marching onward, but doing so can be difficult without the option to save the game.
