Parsing the meaning behind the post-credits scene and ending of 'John Wick: Chapter 4,' in which Keanu Reeves's character dies.
This is why he pretty much has to disappear off the face of the Earth. And maybe even we have to believe that John Wick is dead. On the question of God and an afterlife, John has remained noncommittal in the past. This is precisely the fate that John wants to avoid. At ten paces, Caine fires before John and gets him in the side of the belly. John has played by the Table’s rules, the very rules he’s been accused of breaking for several films now, and prevailed. But Caine, who has been trying to kill John Wick throughout the film, also happens to be John’s friend. Remember, he was the one who rescued John Wick at the end of John Wick: Chapter 3, after our hero took what must be one of the most spectacular falls off a building in movie history and everyone thought he was dead. A final duel fought according to the High Table’s ancient codes has, over the course of Chapter 4, been built up as the one thing that could liberate John for good. Even if he isn’t, that’s a hell of an idea to introduce right at the end, relating to a character who is presumably dead and gone forever. We see Caine, now re-retired and supposedly free of all his obligations as a hired assassin, walking to listen to his violin-virtuoso daughter as she plays in a crowded outdoor plaza. And there’s a hint of it as we see the dog turning off-screen.
There's an intimidating post-credits sequence after John Wick: Chapter 4 that teases another scary mission of revenge might be on the way.
[John Wick 4's post-credits](https://www.cbr.com/john-wick-4-one-post-credits-scene/) stinger when Caine's spotted trying to take flowers to Mia, who's playing the violin in public. In this case, Caine could work to get rid of the secret society that'll forever be watching him and Mia and, ultimately, have one last brawl where he and Akira decide who gets the happy ending. Driven by guilt, Caine may end up hoping to do what John couldn't with the council, all before he and Akira settle their rivalry. We were expecting a shocking ending in 'John Wick: Chapter 4' but maybe not that one. Let's dig into the future of Keanu Reeves' hitman. (Spoilers!)
But now they kill [John Wick](https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/movies/2023/03/21/john-wick-4-review-keanu-reeves/11509740002/), too? The Marquis is able to turn Caine against Wick using his daughter as leverage, since Caine working for the High Table is the one thing keeping her from being killed. The final scene shows Winston and the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) back in New York visiting Wick's grave with his pit bull: John is buried by his wife Helen, with a headstone that reads “Beloved husband” (per Wick’s wishes). Perhaps Reeves pops up in that, but it’s a safe bet we’ll see John Wick again somewhere down the line. Caine and Winston (Ian McShane) tend to the wounded Wick but he’s last seen slumped over, apparently dead. The Marquis (Bill Skarsgård), a powerful emissary for the High Table based in Paris, is in charge of taking out John Wick, whose actions have made him excommunicado from the global criminal organization.
John Wick 4 is out and fans are loving how with its extra budget the film elevates everything from storytelling to stunt work to set pieces.
The High Table cleared John Wick of all his obligations and granted him the freedom he always wanted. So, it’s possible that Winston, who was revealed to be John Wick’s father had simply faked his death to give John Wick a true exit from the world of killing. Or Caine’s demise could pull John Wick back into the world of killers in He was the Manager of the Continental Hotel in Osaka and died staying loyal to his friend. Following that scene, Winston and Bowery King attended his funeral where they said their goodbyes in front of Wick’s tombstone, which read “John Wick – Loving Husband.” But unlike the usual one-two set that Marvel movies leave for their fans, John Wick 4 has only one scene after the credits role.
The 'John Wick: Chapter 4' post-credits scene was originally part of the movie, says director Chad Stahelski: 'I'd love to see those characters again.'
"I [said], 'Look, we like the way you perform, and I love your vibe. Would you at least fly to Berlin and meet us?'" the filmmaker explains. "You'd have to ask Keanu [about] his thoughts, but, for me, I love the idea." In the film's last few seconds, we see singer [Rina Sawayama](https://ew.com/movies/rina-sawayama-john-wick-4-keanu-reeves/)'s character Akira, carrying a switchblade and presumably hell-bent on exacting revenge after Caine has murdered her father, Shimazu (played by Kiroyuki Sanada).
The movie is the perfect thing to establish based on not only the spinoffs of the John Wick universe. This has also been the potential sequel and the next film ...
John Wick Chapter 4 is definitely consisting of the post-credits scene. Keanu Reeves and Ian McShane will play their roles as John Wick and Winston Scott in the upcoming spin-off Ballerina, the film features Ana de Armas as Rooney Brown, a ballerina, and an assassin. We have expected to hint this is not just the fate of the characters of the film but, we cannot deny that the film holds really a powerful potential future storyline of the universe. Now, the main thing is the film is set for 24 March 2023. This has also been the potential sequel and the next film in the series, aka John Wick: Chapter 5. This is one of the most anticipated movie releases of recent times.
"John Wick: Chapter 4" director Chad Stahelski is curious to see what potentially happens after that post-credits scene.
[early box-office success of "John Wick: Chapter 4"](https://www.looper.com/1238861/john-wick-chapter-4-on-track-to-break-franchise-record-with-opening-weekend-box-office/) certainly opens the door for more movies to be produced in the future. I love the character of Akira, and I love the character of Caine, so maybe that's her transformation into what John Wick had become — or maybe she does the morally good thing and doesn't make the next move. "We did have versions of that scene that we actually put in the movie, pre-credit, but we didn't know if that was the right direction," Stahelski continued. Well, the director wants to know, so don't be surprised if a spin-off or a fifth "John Wick" installment ultimately addresses the issue. "You'd have to ask Keanu [about] his thoughts, but, for me, I love the idea." ["John Wick: Chapter 4."
"I guess I'm going to have to lean on never say never," says actor of whether he will play the titular hitman again.
