Norway's rugged coastline looms large in the final season of 'Succession'. Emily Bootle follows the Roys on a sea voyage from Bergen to Kirkenes.

There is, however, ice, wind and the power of nature, followed by a swift duck inside a café for hot tea and waffles on a cliff where the horizon is so wide you can see the curve of the earth. There is also plenty of opportunity to get off and explore on land: husky and reindeer sledding, kayaking, snowmobiling, ice-fishing and guided hikes are among the excursions offered. There is no luxury hotel here for the Roys to luxuriate in (though I hope the Instagrammer being photographed by her boyfriend in Moon Boots, miniskirt and Chanel bag makes it look as elite as she hopes). For many, catching a glimpse is the highlight of the trip and Havila makes sure you don’t miss them when they appear. It launched its first two cruise ships under the Voyages banner in 2021; two more join this year after legal wranglings over a lease arrangement with the sanctioned Russian ship financing company GTLK – Havila will soon take ownership of the ships. The route, enjoyed by tourists for more than a century, runs from cosmopolitan Bergen to remote Kirkenes, only two miles from the Russian border on Norway’s north-east, Arctic coast.
