Ben Foster hints at biggest lure for AFC Wrexham - not Ryan ... (Daily Express)

Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster has come out of retirement to play for non-league Wrexham AFC, who are backed by Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and ...

Foster impressed on his return as Wrexham sealed a 2-0 win over York City to move three points clear at the top of the National League with a game in hand. He was clearly excited by the prospect of going home to his own bed rather than staying in a hotel. Foster first played for Wrexham back in 2005 when he was loaned out by Stoke City and went on to win his first-ever piece of silverware in the EFL Trophy. Ben Foster made his return to football on Saturday as he came out of retirement to play for non-league Wrexham - but he suggested the biggest selling point for his return was that players get to stay in their own home the night before a game. The ex-England international is now looking to lead Wrexham back to professional football after a nudge from the manager Phil Parkinson as well as celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Foster called time on his playing days at the end of last season after slowly moving towards becoming a squad player-come-YouTuber over the past few years having already enjoyed a long and successful career.

“I was actually looking forward to having a little bit of time off and that would have been a bit too soon. “I was like ‘I could do’, but with everything I am doing with the podcast, the channel and a lot more media work, nothing has really appealed to me but as soon as the Wrexham one came through, I thought ‘I will do that’.” “If they are good people then you have got half a chance and Phil absolutely reassured me that all the players, the staff and everybody involved with the club are really good eggs and I will fit in really well here. “It is not a million miles away from home and I know from watching some of the documentary that they are good lads,” said Foster. “We are doing well at the top of the league and if I can come in and add a little bit more experience then that will do me.” “It is similar to when I rejoined Watford four-and-a-half years ago; it is knowing that I have been there before which always makes it a little bit easier and I left Wrexham on very good terms all those years ago.

BEN FOSTER has other commitments outside of football but the goalkeeper is fully focussed on helping Wrexham clinch automatic promotion.

“I want to win, I want to stop the ball going in the back of the net.” “I am ridiculously competitive and if I am on the pitch, I am giving it absolutely everything I have got. “I have other commitments but when it comes to the football-side of it - when I am training or on the pitch - that is my main focus,” said Foster.
