Pathu Thala Movie Review: Silambarasan starrer 'Pathu Thala' has hit the big screens across the globe today, and the gangster drama went houseful for.

But we have to wait to see who is going to stand on which side in the film. Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar are reportedly playing as a pair in the film, while the former plays a gangster and the latter plays a District Collector. Without affecting the essence of the story, the director has made some changes in the film's screenplay, and it's going to be a surprise to fans, who already watched the original version. But this time it's going to be a powerful one from the composer as the film has more action sequences.

It's going to be government versus AGR (Silambarasan) in the film, and the film has a strong supporting cast.

Obeli N Krishna has directed 'Pathu Thala' and the creative director has made some alterations to the remake to suit the Tamil audience. The positive reviews for the film will lead the film to turn into a box office blockbuster, and the FDFS of the film is to open a little earlier than normal ones. Director Obeli N Krishna's Pathu Thala starring Simbu, Gautham Menon and Gautham Karthik is a mediocre remake of the Kannada film, Mufti.

Nee Singam Dhan and Osarattum Pathu Thala are the top picks from the album. Gautham Karthik has gotten one of the best roles of his career. It’s almost like he is dancing to the tune of AR Rahman. The dreaded gangster, who is a hero, has a past which highlights his good side. Similarly, the chariot sequence featuring Simbu and Gautham Karthik and the climax will bring the roof down. Soon, CM Arunmozhi goes missing and we get to see Guna (Gautham Karthik), who is a gangster and an undercover cop.

Pathu Thala movie review: Silambarasan TR, popularly known as Simbu, entertains his audiences with a power-packed performance in the Tamil film.

The finale action sequence is one of the major highlights of the film and thanks to the way it’s shot and presented, it leaves the viewer exiting the cinema hall on a high. The crime angle of the film largely unfolds in the second half after Gautham Karthik’s character infiltrates AGR’s gang and it’s this half of the movie that really keeps one engrossed in the story. Nevertheless, Pathu Thala still works to a large extent because of Silambarasan, who leaves maximum impact in the limited screen time he gets.

The imagery, even during a highly amped interval introduction scene should have ideally been a lot more explosive given the hours of hyping the film has been doing for its hero. This of course is the troubled relationship between Ravana and Shurpanaka and it does a great job by also including Ravana’s murder of her husband as the most important conflict driving Pathu Thala. The philosophy of its protagonist AGR also seems to be the philosophy that drives the screenplay. Apart from how perfectly this suits the real-life image of its equally misunderstood star Silambarasan, this bad-to-good flow is just as ideal for the way the film plays with the Ramayana myth. It also helps that the film is narrated from the point of view of an undercover police officer named Guna (Gautham Karthik), who has to infiltrate AGR’s circle of trusted lieutenants to gather enough evidence to convict him. Said to have been inspired by the Kannada film Mufti (2017), the writing is clever in the way it convinces the audience to dislike its protagonist AGR (STR) for much of its runtime until it becomes impossible to not love him.

It’s only a spectacularly-shot action sequence in the second half that gives any energy to this film which has an atrocious reveal that can put any technological advancement of the 21st century to shame. Leela is at loggerheads with AGR’s men, and both the crime lord and Sakthivel are aware of it. The screenplay of Pathu Thala is woven tight — more than the source material — but there are too many issues in how this film is paced. Most within the party suspect Naanjilaar’s hand in the disappearance of the CM, and this only adds to his anger at AGR. And though the story still follows the undercover cop Sakthivel (Gautham Karthik), who infiltrates AGR’s gang, much of how he goes about it and the role he plays in the film, gets diluted. In a surprising turn of events, the Chief Minister gets kidnapped, and all eyes turn towards AGR, an infamous mining mafia head in Kanyakumari.

Pathu Thala review: Silambarasan saves the timeworn gangster film (The Indian Express)

Pathu Thala movie review: Silambarasan is the only redeeming feature of the film, directed by Obeli N Krishna.

In the second half, Simbu’s presence raises the tone of the film. The actor, however, saves the film. On top of that, a new trend in Tamil cinema is to project the hero as a representative of a lower class or caste. It is about sand mafia kingpin AGR ( [Silmabarasan](https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/tamil/osarattum-pathu-thala-song-out-ar-rahman-delivers-another-hit-for-silambarasan-8522151/)), who is suspected of killing the chief minister of the state. In the first half of the film, director N Krishna only teases us with glimpses of AGR, and he finally makes his entry onscreen in the interval (something we saw in Vikram). [Jayam Ravi](https://indianexpress.com/about/jayam-ravi/) was seen in a gangster film called [Agilan](https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/tamil/agilan-movie-review-a-yet-another-formulaic-film-with-a-pseudo-anti-hero-8489254/), about a hitman who would do anything for money.

With the used-out traits of heroics crowding the much anticipated second half, the Silambarasan starrer fails to provide the high one would expect. The songs Pathu Thala and Namma Satham were impressive, and they kind of blended with the film. The success or the fine aging of any gangster drama directly depends on how it builds the world and adds depth to pivotal characters. The first half of the movie Pathu Thala is roughly one hour and ten minutes long, and Silambarasan makes his grand entry in the last five minutes of the first half. The film opens with the kidnap of the current Tamil Nadu CM. There is a sequence where they reveal that AGR has a global company that has an annual profit of Rs 300 Crores, and he distributes all that money for charity.

Pathu Thala review: This Simbu-starrer will keep you busy looking ... (The News Minute)

Simbu plays a don with a golden heart who faces down revenge, treachery, and undercover cops with no help from the screenplay.

This is about all of the plot that can possibly be framed in coherent sentences. The rest of the movie is a gory tale of vigilantism, undercover cops, loyalty, treachery, and lots and lots of shots of Simbu just striding across the screen, scowling fiercely. AGR may be a don, but he’s played by Simbu, so of course he’s a don with a heart of gold. Let me start this review with a scene from Pathu Thala, to acquaint you with the unrestrained absurdities of the plot. He plays kingmaker from the shadows, deciding who should be in power and who should not. We’re also told that he and the deputy chief minister (Gautham Vasudev Menon) are at war with each other, one trying to oust the other from the party at every turn.
